It only takes the lab a couple of hours to do them, but they have to get it to your office and then the doctor has to go over everything. If you call in 2 days you should be able to get the results. Or you can just wait for them to call you. If you tell the person registering you you want to sign a release form then you can call the lab directly later in the day and get the number yourself. They can't diagnose anything though, just give you the numbers.
I had my 1hr test this morning - they did a finger stick in the office so they knew the results immediately. But I failed so I have the 3hr test tomorrow morning at the hospital lab - they said they won't get those results until the next day.
I took mine last Thursday afternoon (4:00) and my doctor's office called at 9:00am Friday morning with the results. I failed and had to do the 3-hour today. I had that done from 8-11am this morning, and my doctor's office called at 3:15pm today saying I passed! (Yay). It would depend on your lab and doctor's office, but I would say you'd hear in a few days. Some doctors only call with poor results, so if it's been a few days, you could always call the office and check.
I also got the finger prick and found out within minutes. I failed by one stinkin point. Took the 3 hour test Thursday and haven't heard anything back. I'm assuming they'd call if I failed that one. No news is good news, right?
