Thank you to everyone who responded on my last post!
The pedi called with the results to DS' allergy test today. Negative for a peanut allergy. PHEW! But DS does have a mild allergy to egg whites.
It doesn't seem as scary as a peanut allergy, but I know it will take some effort to weed out foods with eggs. I just did a quick online search on egg allergies and it seems like we'll be avoiding a lot of baked goods. I did find some egg-substitutes that we can use though.
Anyone else's LO have an egg allergy?
Re: Allergy to egg whites (update to Epipen post)
No experience with egg allergies here, but glad you don't have to be a peanut-free household.
Can you grow out of an egg allergy?
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
Thanks, kj! I forgot to ask the pedi, but one of the articles I found said most kids outgrow it by the age of 5.
This! You can usually give them eggs when baked into foods. Ask the allergist. A is a 1 out of 6 on the allergy scale for eggs, and will most likely outgrow it.
Thanks, ladies! That is definitely encouraging.
And his allergist said he could have eggs in baked goods cause the eggs are well baked through.
