I really like all the extra fun threads this past week!  We?re no Parenting, but it?s nice to check back here throughout the day and have new posts to read!! OK. Anybody heard from kbetzner? She was 4-5cm last week?  Mrsd1979 delivered her twins and they are healthy.  Lots of new(ish) folks this week.  And several people either taken off restrictions or put on them. Otherwise we have the usual ultrasounds and appointments.  Updates?

GTKY: Did you always see yourself as a parent?

I?m really bummed.  I was supposed to go home Friday.  The dumb insurance company did not get back to home health in time.  Not that I feel I need home health, but DH doesn?t trust me to be honest with my symptoms. So apparently I need a babysitter.  There?s a possibility I?ll go home today (Monday), but I?m afraid to get excited again only to just be disappointed.  Otherwise, things are status quo.  So much though, I am far enough along to feel uncomfortable and complain about it.

My mom and dad had a very dysfunctional relationship.  My dad was abusive toward my oldest brother, and I think my mom was toward my other brother.  Because our family was so unstable, my mom always told my brothers and me that we shouldn?t have kids or be parents.  We didn?t have great role models, especially in my dad, so we weren?t cut out.  Or something.  I never thought about having kids of my own as a result.

My oldest brother married a woman with two young children and they are like his own.  They?re 20 and 25 (my brother is 11 years older than me) and have grown into great young men.  My brother and SIL weren?t even close to being perfect parents, but the nephews are awesome anyway.  My other brother has two boys that are 9 and 11.  When we visited last thanksgiving, I was amazed at what great parents they are to the boys.  They too have had a rocky road (they like MJ a little too much even though they?re in their 40?s), but no one?s the worse for wear.

Me?. My philosophy was that if my husband wanted kids I?d have them.  If he didn?t want them, I wouldn?t.  I met DH and knew he was ?the one.?  He had wanted kids his whole life and if I hadn?t agreed, it would?ve been a deal breaker for him.  He wanted 2 kids and I was fine with that.  We had DS in 2009.  At first I was a total fish out of water.  My mom had died 8 years prior, so there was no asking her for advice.  And even though I love my MIL? It?s not the same.  So I struggled.  DH, of course, was a natural.  My struggle with PPD and post partum psychosis did not help.  Nor did my resident work schedule of 90 hours a week.  I felt I barely knew my son.  It changed when I left residency early (super long story) and started at my present job (40 hours a week).  I actually felt like a part of DS?s life.  So much so I wanted another baby and? here we are.  Now whenever I look at pictures or have DS in my lap, I can?t imagine being anything but a parent.  I can?t imagine my life without my child and am super excited to add to our family.  Even through two awful pregnancies.  Totally worth it.

We started trying in January and found out on Valentine's day (our dating anniversary) that we were/are expecting :) Looking forward to getting to know you guys!

  • I'm feeling good, dr appt and echo on Friday, so hopefully news will be good!

If you ask my sisters, they would say I've been mothering them all my life! I found out when I was 21 that I might have trouble conceiving. I have always loved children, but the dx caused me to keep them at arm's length. When I met my DH I knew he would be an amazing father and it was in the plan for us to have children some way.

A month after our wedding I started seeing specialists who didn't think I'd have a problem, but were willing to investigate. It was like they opened pandora's box! As soon as one problem was dealt with another popped up. Conceiving became very stressful and scientific for us at that point. I became very jaded by the whole process as well. So, long story short, I'm excited to be pregnant, but I don't think I'll feel like it is real until we are holding our baby girl. Then we will have a whole new bunch of issues to figure out LOL!

  • I've been soooooo tired. Started monitoring my glucose and it's not looking too great. I honestly feel like being on bed rest effects how quickly my body breaks down glucose. But I'm no doctor. We have BPP with NST this week on Thursday. I'm kind of excited about that. LO moves around so much so I'm interested to see what his heart is doing when he does move.

I've always envisioned myself as a parent. I actually saw myself being a mother before I could see myself being a wife. And then I met the man I wanted to marry and have a whole bunch of babies with.

It does.  They've done studies about exercise or no exercise after eating and the exercise group always had lower numbers.  It's always been frustrating for docs with patients on bedrest who also have GD or DM.  Not like they can just go for a walk (which is really all it takes)!

  • I'm new to the bed rest group too! It will be a week tomorrow.

Due Date: January 16th with a C-section tentatively scheduled for January 11th

    Pink/Emerson Clara

Put on modified bed rest at 22 wks due to extreme shortening and funneling of cervix. I had a preventative cerclage placed at 13 wks and thank goodness we had or we would have been looking at another loss last week. I'm also doing a progesterone suppository. We have a cervical scan/check tomorrow and I'm hoping for some better news. Fingers crossed.

I've always seen myself as a parent and always wanted kids, having DD really made me realize how much I love it and then losing one of our DDs in February was crushing. We knew we wanted more kids and are really hoping this little girl stays put and gets nice and strong before my damn cervix gives out!

  • My mom says when she was growing up her dream car was a station wagon.  That's how I always felt.   I wanted a big family.  At least 3 kids close in age...maybe more.

Then IF struck and I didn't know if I'd ever have any kids.  It was a long road but I'm about to be the mom of 3u2 in a few short weeks.  I am so so thankful that IF didn't ruin my "plans" and that I will get to be the mom I always wanted to be.

Oh, and screw the station wagon...we need a minivan with all those car seats!

  • Nothing is new, and I am exhausted. DH is on afternoon shift this week so I'm extra lonely and dinner is going to suck all week cause I am useless from the couch.

GTKY: Growing up with my bullshit excuse for a mother scared me into thinking if I was ever to have a child I would be like her. Over the past few years with DH and working as a live-in nanny, health care aide, and nurse, my mind has changed. I now can see I am a caring, nurturing person and I don't have to end up like her. DH was the best thing to ever happen to me, and he showed me how great it could be for us to start a family. So no I never thought I should, but now I really do!

  • Had a really great appt last Wed. My cervix is measuring 2.9cm and the funneling that has been there since 15ish weeks is gone! Not sure how that's possible, but I'll take it! (I had an emergent cerclage placed at 22 weeks 5 days). I'm SO thankful for the cerclage; we were definitely headed towards another loss as I was down to 8mm and 1 cm dilated the morning of my cerclage.

I always saw myself as a mommy. One of those childhood role playing things I guess you just kind of grow up expecting. Then when adulthood (and reality) hit it seemed really unclear how I could incorporate being a parent in with being a career woman. I'm still struggling with that aspect- never thought I'd consider leaving my career but I think about it daily. We have always discussed having 3 kids. Technically, we have 3 kids (including this current pg) but we did not get to keep one. I think our loss has intensified the desire for more kids; if I could have 4 or 5 I would. But after this pg...I don't know. I'm on week 11 of bedrest and have 10 to go. I know it will be worth it in the end if we have a healthy baby to take home but I'm just not sure I can sign up for this again. I'm trying not to think about that now, but it's on my mind a lot.

  • Due date 12/25, modified bedrest, team blue, GA 26 weeks, preterm contractions

I am not the type of person who can sit quietly for long. My contractions are worsened by walking around and my job requires 12 hours on my feet thus no work. DH is out of town on business until Friday. Hopefully the contractions settle down over the next 5-6 days and I can go back to work with a modified schedule. Plus, I really don't want the baby coming any sooner than he's ready. So far, no dilation and I'd like to keep it that way. The scary thing about the contractions is that they are true contractions and I can't tell when they will, if they will, go from non-dilating ones to dilating ones. Oy. A little overwhelmed.

  • Hey ladies, i am new to the bedrest group starting 09/18/12. I went to my regular 34w appointment this morning and due to my preterm delivery history with DS1 ( had him at 34w4d), the doctor sent me to the hospital after noticing i was 1cm dialated and thinning. No contractions, but started the steroid shots just in case baby decides to come early. I was put on bedrest for 2weeks, not sure if strict or modified, i believe somewhere in between ( can lay on couch, cook a quick meal, go to bathroom...) i will ask more about the restrictions tomorrow when i go to get my second steroid shot.

Sending positive vibes to my fellow bedrest gals!
