Your favorite carrier/wraps

Thanks Magnolia for the deal posted below! (I know its been asked before, but it got me thinking...)

Whats your favorite carrier/wrap?

I always seem to hear great things about the Ergo, and the Gemini & K'tan seem like popular choices as well. I would really like to venture into wraps- but the choices seem overwhelming...Where to start!?!

So whats your favorite carrier/wrap, and why-

Re: Your favorite carrier/wraps

  • For early on, I really like the Moby. I made three for DS by just buying the fabric in the right length and then cutting it into three long strips. Cheaper than buying one, and had backups if one was in the laundry. Gave the 3rd to a friend. I think I am going to try the K'tan this time around, for when DS2 gets a little heavier.

I got a Moby for our shower with DD, and I did like it- but not the length (Im going to cut it this time). I've heard its super easy to make your own... did you use a certain type of fabric?

  • I already have way too many carriers to even consider getting more, but I'd still love to have a great woven wrap. The Beco Gemini looks cool too. I have a Moby, a ring sling, Beco Butterfly II and hip hammock, so yeah, no more carriers for me. The only one I didn't end up loving at various stages was the hip hammock, since the ring sling can be used the same way and is way more versatile.

I would really like a ring sling (I think), can any one point me in the right direction to find one?

  • I have SBP ring sling and a Beco Gemini and absolutely love them both. I still pop DD in the RS for quick trips into places because it makes carrying her SOOOO much easier. I plan to use it today at the doctor's. And I really loved carrying her in it as a newbie. Can't wait for another newbie! The Gemini is a god-send for back carrying but I also liked the front carry when DD got a little big to comfortably carry while sleeping in a RS.

I was given a K'tan as a hand me down and think it was too small for me or something because I was never able to get it on comfortably, I always felt like it was digging into me.

Right now I'm eyeing a mei tai but am not sure I'd be able to justify another carrier to DH Smile

I have a Balboa Baby (Baby Balboa?) Ringsling and I love it! I actually picked it up one day at Marshals, but I have used it plenty of times. You use it more once the baby is a bit older though, not as a NB. I loved putting her in it with a hip carry when we went shopping, while vacuuming, or just going out for walks. The shoulder strap is really padded and comfortable

Sleeping Baby Productions!!! I absolutely love mine and it's done by a WAHM with amazing customer service and super quick turn-around. She is in high demand though so it might take you a little time to be able to place an order but it's so worth it.

Sorry, I get super excited about my RS so...my RS was the only carrier I had at the newborn stage. My absolute favorite was putting her in to go grocery shopping and she'd sleep on me the entire time, way up high on my chest where I could just look down and kiss the top of her little head. It really honestly made me feel more bonded to her early on. Ah, I'm so excited to do that again! lol

  • Though I haven't used it, I really love my Ergo.  I've tried it on and put my 13lb Boston Terrier in it and wandered around the house, just to reassure myself that I like it.  I also bought the infant insert to use when he's teeny.  I really can't wait to try it out for real :-)
  • After using several different types of carriers with DS I bought a used Moby wrap for really cheap (about $15).  It was the only carrier I found that I could wear for long periods of times that didn't hurt my back.  I have scoliosis so I have a lot of back issues due to where and how my spine is curved.  The moby was AWESOME!!!!  I could wear DS for hours without an issue.

I know some people say that it can get hot, but I didn't really have any issues wearing it in the summer.  I found the directions that came with it pretty confusing, but looked up videos on youtube and those were a lot more helpful.  It took a few tries, but I was able to wrap with no problems very quickly.  I tried the ergo, but didn't like the way it fit at all.  I also know that some people prefer to use woven wraps instead of a stretchy type wrap like the moby.  I've never tried one and don't plan to.  I will stick to my moby with this LO and will be more than happy with that. :)

  • My friend made me a mei tai carrier and I loved it.  DH even wore it!  Per my friend's advice, I didn't wear it until DS was mabe 6 weeks old and had gained some bulk.  I tried it earlier and he just slid down too far and I worried about suffocating him.  I will be using this carrier again.  I also was gifted a sevenslings sling, which I'll be trying out while DS2 is too small for my mei tai.

  • I like the Moby. Although it is a bit complicated to put on at first, it is very comfy. I also like the kind that is like a sling with a ring. I don't know what they are called, but I got mine off etsy. That one is easy to put on and take off. It is especially easy when the baby is sleeping and you want to get them out of it asleep. I didn't like the Baby Bjorn type because it was hard to get the baby in and out of for me.
