BM is having contractions!

I don't know much about it having never been pregnant myself, but BM started having contractions Saturday and had some Sunday too but I guess they went away.  She never went in for an appt or u/s but we are estimating her due date was Saturday (Sept 15), so we are technically past that now.  I just hope she doesn't wait until the last minute because she's keeping it a secret so she can't just be like "oh I'm in labor, I have to go!"  She did mention how she has a wedding Friday she has to work at (she's a floral designer for weddings).  I don't think she's going to make it to Friday!

Who is an expert on contractions?  How long after contractions first start, does labor normally occur?  I know when it becomes a consistent pattern, it's getting close, but like I said, she started contractions on Saturday, so I hope it's soon! Big Smile

  • I have no idea about your questions, but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!  This is super exciting!  Keep us posted!

  • It is different for everyone. My SIL (Dh's brother's wife) had contractions and was in "early labor" for 3 weeks before the big day finally arrived. While my other SIL (my brother's wife) had never even had a braxton hicks contraction, and was overdue 6 days. We thought she would never have the baby, and we were laughing about it on the Sunday afternoon. Monday morning they called us at 8:00AM to say that they had had the baby!!! You really just never know.

But if she has had any previous children, I think her labor experiences with them should be a good comparison...but not always! LOL

Sorry, I know that wasn't much help, but GOOD LUCK!!! How exciting!!

  • Exciting!!! And congrats!

Most important is the regularity of the contractions. Woman can have contractions, even painful ones, for days... and days.

With my birthson, the night before I had some semi painful contractions that were regular for less than an hour and then stopped being regular. Since they were not regular anymore, I went to bed and then I I woke from my water breaking and then hours later - he arrived! It all happened so fast!

With my DD, I was having serious Braxton Hick contractions throughout the pregnancy and then for a whole month before delivery I was having painful real contractions that stopped me in my tracks. So I had TONS of contractions. Some were even regular, but they never stayed regular long enough to do anything. Even after weeks of pretty intense contractions, she was late and had to be induced.

So the short answer is to get ready because this could be it!, but at the same time I wouldn't hold your breath for it happening within 24 hrs.

Yep!  We have a car seat base in both our cars and then we have everything lined up near the door..diaper bag, camera, video camera, BM gift, car seat, etc.  It's just hard because we live an hour away from the hospital and our offices are an extra 35 minutes away, so I just want to sit at home all day waiting for her phone call! haha

  • Congratulations that is so exciting!!  Contractions vary so much person by person, it's so hard to tell.  Either way you're getting close though, I hope she has a safe, healthy and comfortable-as-possible labor and delivery Smile

  • Haha! Well the drive might be kind of helpful. Labor and birth usually take way longer than an hour and a half!

I had early labor off and on for two weeks with both LOs (birthson and DS). It happens when it happens. If she wants, she can take 2T of castor oil. If the baby's ready to go, that'll usually do it (and 2T is much safer than the 4 some midwives recommend. It is really gross tho).

Hospital will be the first time we meet.  Pretty crazy but oh well.  She acted like she wanted to meet but then after talking on the phone, she seemed really happy/comfortable with us, and then didn't feel the need.  I just think she wants very little involvement with this whole thing in general.
