Can anyone give me the pros/cons of a D & C vs Naturally allowing the embryo to pass through? Baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and I need to decide which avenue to take.

Re: Pros/Cons D&C vs Natural
And I am sorry for your loss.
I experienced them both... I would say have the D&C since is quicker. Waiting until your body is ready to start the process is VERY difficult. With this last MC I was almost 18 wks and after the news of no heartbeat only 1 day went by and I was going crazy. The day after I had the D&E. Recovery was not too bad physically at least.
I can't really give pros/cons like the women who've experienced both natural and D&C, but I can tell you what I experienced with a natural m/c.
I found out at 9 weeks that our baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. DH and I talked through options with the doctor and decided to wait for a natural m/c, preferring to let my body handle things in its own timing.
I waited for three more weeks before it happened, and I understand now why many women choose the D&C route--the waiting game is HARD. Three weeks felt like forever. But now (almost a week later; it started last Wednesday), I'm glad I went natural. It's been painful and messy (cramping and bleeding were similar to normal period stuff, but far more severe), and it's taken longer than I would've expected (up through yesterday I was still having fairly intense pain and bleeding), but I do feel comfort in having let my body do its thing; I think the "closure," at least for me, was helped by this.
I have good friends who've gone both routes, and some really encourage natural while others encourage a D&C. I really think it's just a matter of what the pros and cons are to YOU--there's not really a right/wrong on this.
I thankfully didn't have to play the waiting game. I started to bleed last Thursday, went to the ER and was informed that I was having a miscarriage. This was my first pregnancy so I've never had a D & C but let me tell you, it was extremely painful! I was having actual contractions every 30 seconds (couldn't walk or move) and it took a while to pass the tissue. I'm still bleeding almost a week later but it's starting to lighten so I think it may be almost over. Just make sure you know what is each intels and then, although it will be emotionally painful either way, make a decision on which to do. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
