OK ladies, I have heard amazing things about the rock n'play for sleeping in place of a bassinet or pnp or cosleeper. I purchased 1 today at BRU. I'm curious if it's safe for all night sleeping though? I do realize that LO will be in and out because of feedings and changing and such. We also plan on moving LO to his crib around 6 weeks or so.
Thanks!!
Re: Rock n' Play for sleeping?
Yes, it's safe. I have several mommy friends that swear by them. They didn't get popular until right after I had DD, so I don't have personal experience.
This is my siggy. Love it.
I also reg'd for the yellow one referenced above. I've heard great things from BFF who used it for her two boys and plan to use it as our bedside bassinet for the first few months.

Have you guys heard about the reviews/concerns with them giving babies flat heads? (https://kckidsdoc.com/dear-fisher-price.html)
I had one on my registry, and then got scared off...now you've all got me second guessing. Am I just being paranoid? People really seem to swear by them.
I'm also concerned about this, and for this reason, I'm not getting one (to start). But, if LO just won't sleep anywhere, I'll consider it.
We used the RnP with DS1 for all night sleeping. It was truly a miracle. He STTN (well, one six hour stretch) for the very first time the first night he slept in it (at 4 weeks). We kept him in it for over six months (at 15 months he's still not at the weight limit, but far too mobile).
Regarding the flat head/stiff neck issue, DS1 moved his had back and forth and squirmed quite a bit in it. It's not like a straightjacket.
We plan to use it with DS2.
Babies run the risk of developing flat spots on their heads if they lay on a certain part of their head for any extended period of time; doesn't matter if it is a crib, RNP, PNP, bassinet or swing. This is part of the reason it is good to give babies tummy time and vary their positioning frequently.
As with any baby product, use your best judgement and common sense.
I purchased two RNPs for these babies as I have also been reading excellent reviews.
I have one but am planning on using it for either naps or night not both, because I am worried about a flat head. I don't know if that fear is warranted or not but I figure better safe than sorry.
We have used it since day 1. He still sleeps in it at night- next to my bedside. At this point he is buckled in because he can roll. DS started STTN at about 6-7 weeks. When he was a newborn I loved that I could tote it around to wherever I was in the house. Can't do that easily with a cosleeper. Weaning them to a flat surface isn't that hard. I get him drowsy and then transition him to a flat surface for naps.
Any flat surface can cause flat head. This issue isn't just due to a RnP. You have to watch your baby to make sure he/she is rotating to sleep on each side of the head equally..When the baby is younger you might need to position it yourself.
Agreed! Flat heads develop from never being moved around or always in the same place all day long. Tummy time starting around 3-4 weeks is important and of course nothing takes the place of holding baby but once you realize that sleep is so coveted you will do whatever works for you and your baby to get some rest. Any doctor or "baby whisperer" will tell you can't create a bad habit in a baby that is 3 months or under, they are still getting used to living and really need to be catered too. Now, if your 6 month old is still in there, well...then you might have a hard time breaking that routine but honestly, the first 3 months are about survival!!!
This is my plan too. We didn't register for one, but received one as a gift from another mom. I'm not in love with it, but I've heard such good things about, especially for babies with reflux issue, that we decided to keep it just in case. Our plan is to use the PNP in our room at night until we move him to his crib and used the RNP for the occasional daytime nap. If reflux is an issue, then we it on hand for nighttime use, if needed.
