GTKY: Who were you in HS?

Just curious as sometimes people change so much since then that you would never have guessed that maybe someone was in the Chess Club for example.  For example I picture Ernie to have been in the Debate Club, Dixee would have been in Track and Field, Beener would have been in some type of community serve organization and maybe Tambcat would have played field hockey? Stick out tongue

Who were you? Also, what would you guess of other bumpies?

I was the Teacher Pet Embarrassed The Teacher always left me in charge, haha. I was on the Softball Team ( I was not great at all), I was on the Yearbook Committee and I was one of those kids who never got into trouble and tried hard to get good grades.  I was not in any advanced classes but I was top of my class in the "Regular" classes.  I graduated 13 out of 55, yep I had a VERY small graduating class.

Re: GTKY: Who were you in HS?

  • I was voted "Most School Spirit" in HS. I loved going to sports games, was involved in Student Council, and was a student volunteer. Total goody goody. I miss HS a lot. It was a lot of fun for me.

  • Ha! I am so unathletic. I was in French Club and Guitar Ensemble. I was also in NHS, but I did only the bare minimum to keep my membership. Actually, my whole life has been an experiment to see how little I can do and still succeed. lol
  • I was a softball player and a drama geek, but wasn't friends with the jock crowd...I hung out with the more book-ish types and the theater people.  I didn't have a lot of good friends in school, I just kind of mingled around between different groups.

I bet MikeHoncho was class clown! ;P

  • I was the athlete/partier...I played soccer and lived for the weekends! I was also in the art club and took mostly art classes, and i was in the foreign language club bc they went on the best field trips. We went to Chicago one day and saw a Mexican art museum, took flamenco dancing lessons, and had dinner at a delicious French restaurant! It was awesome.

I picture ateal being part of a writing/poetry/book type club...huahualove maybe being a cheerleader (she's so supportive! :))...cphillz i think i see as an athlete, maybe bc camden is such a cute boy's boy...starbound i see as being part of the band/orchestra, but also hanging with the party crowd. :)

  • I was and always have been such a mixture of things. I played field hockey, softball and basketball. I was on homecoming & prom committees. I was in DECA and NHS. But I was also the kid who wore jelly bracelets up my arms, Vans/converse shoes, and wore wacky colored nail polish & eye shadow. I had friends from every group, the jocks, nerds, punks, goths, etc.

  • I was friends with everyone and a "goody goody". I did hang out with a lot of the popular kids.
  • I love this thread! I miss high school so much. I was always playing sports and most of my friends were from my teams. I played volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. I was also a total goody good and graduated in the top 10 of my class of 220. I was vice president of NHS too. I would not change a thing. High school were some of the best years of my life!!

  • I hated high school.  We lived in an upper middle class area and my parents didn't make as much money as the other kids parents.  I always had really nice clothes, but we couldn't afford the $120 jeans etc.  I was an average student.  My best friend was three years older than me and my first boyfriend went to another school.  All other boyfriends after him were three or more years older than I.  I had two other close friends.  I excelled in photography and did well in English.

After my sophomore year in high school I rare spent time at high school events.  It just wasn't fun.  The other kids were always hurtful to us if they were in a group.  I did have a friend in about every "clique" you can think of so I had all sorts of shi!t on people at school.  I spent most of my time at college parties and events.  I ended up starting at the college that my best friend went to.

  • I was on the newspaper staff all four years. I was editor-in-chief my senior year. I ran cross country and track. Senior year I was voted best legs.

Best legs? That's a new one!

  • We didn't have debate, but I so would have! I was newspaper editor, 1st chair alto sax, student council treasurer, quiz bowl team captain, very active with Key Club, Beta Club, and Thespian Society, and "Most Likely to Succeed." In other words a giant nerd.

  • I only had 27 in my graduating class : I was editor of the yearbook and editor of the literary magazine. Won the school English award. Very bookish. On the tennis team but TERRIBLE, lol.

  • I was the goth drama/stage crew kid who was in GT classes and a teacher's pet.  I was too busy smoking behind the school to figure out what lunch table I belonged at.

(And goth, not emo.  Baggy, not skinny jeans)

  • I was the shy smart kid.  I participated in no school activities, and only had two friends.  Other kids tried to cheat off my paper.  I was voted Tamest Mustang (our school mascot) my senior year.

  • I was way more involved in university, but in HS I was in the choir, which was a lot of fun. I was also on the robotics team. Nerdiness FTW. I got excellent grades without trying too hard and spent a lot of time partying with my HS BF and his rugby/football friends from another HS. I was in Venture's [level after Scouts] so I went camping a lot.

  • The first two years of HS, I was mostly "Chelsea's sister" and that's how all upperclassmen and teachers saw me (small school, popular sister). Then I was just kind of there. I wasn't popular, but I got along with the popular kids, the athletes, I was in advanced classes, so I got along with the nerds and I took choir so I'd have a fine art so I could graduate, so I was in with the music nerds. My junior year in HS they removed all candy/soda from campus because California had passed a law saying that schools had to stop selling it starting the next year and they wanted to be proactive. I started a candy black market and made bank until my arch nemesis reported me to the vice principle and I had to shut it down.

  • I was your typical overachiever.

I was the editor of the newspaper all four years, NHS, yearbook editor, drama, choir, prom/homecoming committee, played field hockey, ran track, managed the baseball team, and took AP classes.  I graduated in the top 10% of my class too, which I'm still proud of.  Also, I was president of my class.  Voted most artistic and most outgoing.  I loved high school, and I loved everyone in my class.  I had a great time and made the most of it.

Weird side note: my younger brother insisted on buying the candy from me. I was like, we're family, it's free and he would tell me I was a crappy business woman.

  • I was often the teacher's pet but not because I kissed butt. I was super small and pretty smart. I was part of the literary newspaper team and spent my time writing angsty poetry and going to ska and punk shows. I didn't have a ton of friends and was kind of awkward due to looking so much younger than everyone else. I drove an old convertible, tried to stage protests, and quietly thought I was the sh*t.

Hmmmm not that much has changed :-p.

  • I was a cheerleader and played softball. I read the morning announcements everyday. I loved h. S. we were talking about if we want to go back for a week, and at first I was like hell yeah. But now I'm thinking no because I like where I am better right now.

  • I graduated a year early from HS and spent most of the time split between the grades. I had friends in all cliques for the most part. I was a cheerleader, captain of the swim team (I LOVED my swim team!!), a peer mediator, part of the debate team (the only team from my school's history to place in city-wide debates) and dropped out of honor classes because we had to pay for the tests and I had some run ins with the teacher.

I had friends in so many groups and hardly went to class, but still maintained a pretty decent average. I also did a lot of writing, acting competitions, speech competitions and major internships.

I was much more active with theater outside of school and was heavily involved in an acting/activism organization which was the highlight of my high school years.

I felt so bored in high school and wasn't a fan of the people so I can't say I miss it at all even though I was so involved.

I had a similar situation, except it wasn't clothes I had a problem with due to money, I couldn't afford to pay for the advanced test to give me "college credits" but was still in the class. The teacher wouldn't give me the hand outs since I wasn't taking the test, and I'd fail without them since they were going to be on the in-class final. Then a kid called me out for being poor and had a bunch of football jocks jeering at me and the teacher did nothing.

I walked out of the class and right to the dean of the department and explained the situation. The dean was the main sponsor of the debate team and was so proud of me for working so hard and was so upset about what happened. He put me into another class and I slept through every single one and still graduated.

Also, I tended to date older guys who went to the private catholic school by me, which was the cool school lol.

  • Wait, some schools don't sell single tickets to dances? That is lame. I went stag to all of mine b/c the loser guys I pined after wanted nothing to do with me, and I wouldn't settle for "second best." lol. Ahhh high school..
  • I was sort of the outsider in our large stoner crowd, aka the Bridge crew. There was a bridge crossing a creek across the street from our school and that is where we would hang out. You would get "creeked" to be initiated, where they would throw eggs, flour, all kinds of crap on you and get paddled a la Dazed and Confused. I never got initiated but most of my close friends were. I wasn't one of the super stoners cutting class everyday because I still got pretty good grades. But, I did my fair share of cutting class and getting loaded. LOL I guess you could say I've definitely changed since high school!

PS. They have since fenced in the bridge and you can no longer get to the creek or hang out there.

  • I was a cheerleader and it was my life. I cheered for varsity football. but was more focused on the two other competition squads I was on. I was in advanced classes and got mostly A's and a few B's. I ended up having to homeschool my senior year because I was seriously injured while cheerleading and was diagnosed with a rare nerve disorder that forced me to hang up my pom poms. I was friends with kids from all the cliques.

  • There were lots of different sides of me in HS. I was in NHS until I went into a pretty deep depression Jr year. I went from straight A's to several D's and having to drop classes. I then got my grades back up again my Sr year. I was in a lot of groups, Ace Club (The Asian Club, and no, I'n not Asian but my friend was and she was trying to build up the members), BPA (Business Professionals of America, like DECA but cooler in my book), Quill and Scroll (Yearbook Honors Socity), Spanish Honors Society. Our year book was one of the top in the nation so we had a lot of pressure put on us. I ended up dropping the class my Jr year because I was diagnosed with MS and the drs told me that I would be blind and in a wheel chair in the matter of a few years. I was in a whole lot of physical pain, and emotional. I had panic attacks all the time, and was on a lot of pain killers and I was going through a really bad break-up. Jr year really sucked. Then I got my head out of my ass and said screw it and went back to making good grades, I was working close to 40 hrs per week my sr year because I wanted to be able to go to Spain for an exchange program and to save for college because I know I would have to pay for it all myself.

Even when I was really depressed, I still did really good in a few things, in Spanish as well as in History- they were both advanced classes and I really like a challenge at things I enjoyed. I also volunteered as a teacher's aid for a kindergarten class and I loved it. It was for a class, but I put in twice as many hours as I needed to because it was the one place I could really forget about all the pain.

My sr year I went to Mayo clinic and they just said it was some sort of pain disorder that they don't think it was MS, but they really had no clue and had me keep managing my pain with medicines. Wow, this is really depressing, sorry. Flash forward to now, I don't have MS, drs were wrong! I've been off pain meds for over 2 years now, I still have pain, but nothing like before and I'm managing it pretty well.

  • I was on the Speech Team (different than Debate), drama club, choir and was an editor on the school newspaper.  I got good grades and tried pretty hard in most of my classes.  If I remember correctly, I graduated 117th out of around 750.

  • I was a complete stoner who barely went to class except for cooking and baking - obviously!  However, I was super duper smart, had all A's and B's, was on NHS and graduated 5 out of 347 kids.  In my cooking and baking classes, I led a revolt against a die hard, old school army trained teacher who told us that girls belonged in this class because their place was in the kitchen.  He would call me blondie and say other rude things to all the girls and talk about how men ruled the planet, etc.  He was a complete arsehole and because he had tenure was relegated to a classroom teaching sanitation.  All my other teachers loved me because I was smart and an easy student.  I hung out with two other girls (we are still very close friends 16 years later!) but was friendly with everyone although I really hated the jocks...I think I was just jealous though because I wanted to be sporty.  I did not participate in any school activities and I brought a girl to my prom!

  • I was into art and always was listening to music. I was the funny girl, and i was friends with all the different groups. I had popular girl friends, hippy friends, stoner friends, party animals. Pretty much as long as you were cool and chill and not a drama llama/attention whore we got along.

  • I was not into sports whatsoever. I worked part time at a supermarket (yay me) haha, drove a cool car (or at least I thought it was cool) celica with a flip top sunroof <: hehe. I guess I was sorta cool, this sounds snotty but all my friends were pretty and we dated the "cool boys" think Luke Perry types haha that were the sh*t heads of the high school or "bad boys". I was friends with all types of people though because I still flash back to middle school being a dork and having this b*sh be mean to me and embarass me >: So basically I hung out with the nice, pretty girls who dated the bad boys <: Was in all average classes, normally a B student. Told off teachers occasionally if they were total arses to me or my friends, also told off a few bishes who thought their shiz didn't stink.

  • We weren't ever told class rankings but I had awesome grades and was near the top.

I ran cross country and track and was received 'most dedicated' my last 2 years of cross country.  I'm sure that speaks to my actually running skill.  But if I do something, I'm going to try to do it really well.

My last 2 years I became quite a partier and drank quite a bit on weekends and still kept up my grades and running!  Multitasker for the win.
