Did I buy enough pads?

It seems like everyone is rec the Always infinity pads for PP.  I bought a box of 32 heavy flow and a box of 36 regular flow...does this seem like enough for a couple weeks or too many?  I have NO idea when it comes to pads!! Also, will I even need heavy flow?  My last CS was over six years ago and I can't remember for the life of me!

Re: Did I buy enough pads?

  • In two weeks, I've gone through 48 and I haven't stopped bleeding yet. And, I needed heavy flow. But, then, I always need heavy flow with my period, so I don't know if that relates at all!

  • You might need more heavy flow than that.  But you can always take the ones they have at the hospital.  They are definitely like diapers, but whatever works!  Or just send DH out for more.

  • I would wait and see. Between the pads I received from the hospital and the box I bought (maybe 48) I had more than enough. Of course, my heavy bleeding didn't last that long.

  • I think it depends on the person. I had a package of Heavy Flow at home but the hospital also sent a few of the packages they had with me, so I was set. My bleeding didn't last long.

  • I bought a total of about 7 packs, each with about 24-28 pads. I used about 4.5 of the packs, but I did also double up the pads (two length wise to make them longer).

Yeah, I got the heavy flow / overnight. HUGE pads, super long pads, but they held it all! lol

  • Thanks!! One thing to have checked off the to-buy list!

  • Well, I got a regular size box of them, and it was fine for me. But I honestly only bled heavy for about 4-5 days and then light to just spotting for another 4-5 days. I'm not the "norm" with this.

  • I think I remember getting a box of heavy and a box of overnights of the Always Infinity. I remember being shocked at the amount of bleeding I wasn't doing! I seriously asked the nurse if I could have been bleeding internally...  I always heard after birth it was like a murder scene. She said that with c/s you sometimes bleed less b/c they clean you out when they are in there. I will be getting the same ones this time around though (probably 2 boxes of each, what I don't use PP I'll use in the future... I am one of the 42 women on the planet who hate tampons. Plus I think by the time I'm ready for more will be right around the time I'll be wanting to venture out into the world.). I like the overnights b/c they are longer and IMO better at preventing leaks in the back. I even bring them to the hospital b/c the big huge ginormous ones are so uncomfortable to sit on.

ETA: I only bled for about 4weeks and it was like a normal period I would've had before... just took for.ev.er.

  • The infinity ones are great. I wouldn't buy more. Takes the ones from the hospital and if you need more just send DH to the store to get some.

Also, pads are great to keep the C-section wound dry.

  • For me... I used hospital pads (long & bulky) first several days then Always Infinity. I haven't even used the whole box of 20-something in 3 weeks. I then went to something for a regular flow (don't remember brand) and using those at night. I wear panty liners during the day.

  • Before DS was born, I bought 2 boxes of heavy flow & one box of regular flow.  After I used up the pads I got from the hospital, I only used one box of the heavy flow.  The other 2 boxes are still in my bathroom, I intend to use them this time.

  • I bought a bunch of these for postpartum bleeding but I had an allergic reaction to them. I had planned on needing around 50...kind of sad I can't use them because they worked really well initially.
