C-sections

c-section question

Hi I had a c-section with my last. I went into early labor due to placenta abruption and needed an emergency cs. My dr says I have to have a cs this time no question about it :( What if I go into early labor again? Will they just give me a cs or .... Has anyone been through this at all? Just curious.

Re: c-section question

  • If the cs is medically necessary, and you go into labor before it is scheduled, they will just do the cs whenever labor starts. They would only have you go through labor if you were a candidate for/interested in VBAC.

  • Thank you, good to know. I was just curious. I don't want a cs but I would much rather have one right away then go into labor just to need one. so since he said I can't have a vbac I guess I'm having a cs either way. Thank you :)
  • I was in your exact situation.  I went into labor early before my scheduled c/s w/ my DD due to what they suspect was an abruption.  I was scheduled for 38w and went a week early.  I got to the hospital in labor and they just did the c/s.  It wasn't till they were in there did they see the small abruption.  W/ DS, I was scheduled for my repeat c/s @ 37w3d and made it w/ zero issues.

  • So glad someone has been through this. I've been wondering for weeks what would happen if I went into early labor since I need a cs now.  My daughter's birth was very scary. It was about 9 at night and I was folding laundry. I stood up (was sitting down folding them) and blood was gushing out of me it wouldn't stop. I just stood there and yelled for my boyfriend. My son came running first (he was 1) and screamed. I called my mom to get him and we went to the hospital. I called the dr and hospital on the way. Got there at 9:10 and an ultrasound confirmed the placenta detached. Emergeny cs at 9:20, daughter was born at 10:15. Fastest and scariest birth ever. So I want to be prepared this time and know what is going to happen should I go early.
  • yes they will do a RCS if you go into labor early;  it will be in your chart and you will probably already have a date scheduled which just further confirms that you will be delivering via RCS...I went into labor early (3wks) with my son who was a RCS.  It went very smoothly and there were no issues in terms of the oncall dr doing the RCS

  • Thank you for the reassurance. That makes me feel better, knowing what is going to happen. I don't have a date yet but the dr said it will be a few months before we worry about that and he usually schedules cs 1 week before the due date. He also said "if you don't go early" so I got confused and wondered what he meant. I guess it's a 10% chance of having placenta abruption again and even more for me because it will be within a year.
  • If you go into labor before your scheduled c-section, then they will do a c-section when you get to the hospital instead of sending you to a regular delivery room.

I have decided that I will be super annoyed if I go into labor before my scheduled c-section date.  At this point I am very much looking forward to not laboring at all and getting a decent night's sleep the night before.  At first when I'd had my last c-section (which, like yours, was an emergency) and knew I would have to have another one, I was upset, but now I'm just looking forward to the predictability of it, even though there will be more recovery needed than a vaginal birth.

  • Yeah I'm hoping to make it to the cs date too. I want a smooth recovery. I don't want to get to 10cm and go through the pain of labor and cs again. Thank you :)
