Sleepy baby

2 nights of failed sleep training have caught up to little man. He's allllll about napping today, which is so out of character.

Sadly, however, he will only stay asleep if he's being held.

Oh well!

Re: Sleepy baby

  • Have you attempted CIO?  I know some people don't like it and I hate hearing LO cry for anything but we did it the other night because he always needs his pacifier to fall asleep.  First night was awful, on and off crying for 25 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore, he fell asleep in my arms and then I put him in the crib.  Since for naps and at night no more than 10 minutes crying.  It is true what they say it gets easier each day and you will sleep.

When you let your LO CIO was it a fussy type cry or screaming bloody murder cry? We just needed a break the other night so we put him down for a few minutes to collect ourselves and it turned into full panic attack cry within a minute or two and that's how he always gets..

I read your post about the puking. CIO may work for some but it doesn't work for everyone. I hope that a combination of NCSS and time bring better sleep. I just don't want you to feel bad that you changed course. I hate that people use the term "cave". It sounds like you did what you know was right for your baby.

When you get a bit more rest you may want to check out a book called Sleepless In America. It's not a baby sleep method book but it's a good read for anyone that is sleep deprived.

Yup. Friday night I put him down drowsy, he babbled to himself for 15 minutes and then screamed for over 2 hours with Ferbee style checks.

Last night he screamed for 45 minutes before working himself up so much that he puked. So I caved. CIO is not for us apparently.

    .

I'll check that out! I felt so terrible the whole time. It really is not for us. Thanks for the reassurance that it's not caving.

I am so sorry to hear this! Like Harper'smom said above, you did NOT cave! Every baby and parent is different. Just because on thing works for other moms doesn't mean it will for you. The other night we tried to let him somewhat CIO also and I only last 20 minutes, while checking on him every 5 minutes. When I went in there for the last check, he was so red and sweaty with his arms straight out just screaming. I couldn't take it. I swooped him up and rocked him to sleep (like I do every night) and he fell asleep within minutes. Even though it was 11 pm and I was completely exhausted, I held him until midnight because I felt so bad that I made him go through that. CIO definitely doesn't work us either and never will in my opinion. Hope you find something that works for both you and LO!

  • Sleep Easy (Ferber) worked for us for night time but not for sleep. Ari screamed for 45 minutes straight during his first nap and the check-ins made it even worse. I was shocked because night time was SO easy. Only took him one night of 10 minute fussing to put himself to sleep.

I was so upset and he was a mess from all the crying. I held him for 20 minutes after to get him to calm down and then I started crying.

I'm not sure what I will do for naps but I think I will look in to NCSS because his naps are terrible and something needs to be done.

Lesson is... some things work, some don't. But you definitely didn't cave!
