April 2012 Moms

EVERY. Single. Hour.

I know sleep posts are old and a lot of people are dealing with it but I just need to vent/whine. D was up literally every hour alllll night long! The weird thing is she actually nursed almost everytime. I tried not to nurse her, meaning I didn't offer it first, but she wouldn't stop whining otherwise then actually ate a full feeding, so I think she was really hungry. Growth spurt? Reverse cycling? I. Am. So. Tired! How's everyone else doing? Carawest? Eav2c? Charmed? Dragonmommy? Christina? Ateal?

Re: EVERY. Single. Hour.

  • Pretty much same thing here. Lately pacifiers have been working when he's not hungry, but the past 2 nights he just wants to nurse. Exhausted!

  • I'm sorry. That really sucks!! I hope she is just going through a growth spurt and it will get better soon. I also hope you can get a nap in today.

  • Ugh.  Jack did this for 2.5 weeks!  Well, he would sleep the first 4 hours and then he was up every hour until we got up for the day.  It was awful.  I ended up napping with him during the day.

I think he might have been growth spurting.  He was taking a full feeding at some of those wakings, but not every one.

Once it seemed he wasn't taking a full feeding at the wakings I knew it wasn't growth related and we started the No-Cry Sleep Solution.  It's only been 10 days but he can go to sleep from drowsy without the boob and he's only waking once.  So it is working really well for us.

Hang in there.  This too shall pass.  Nap during the day with her if you are able.

  • We're similar.  Hank has been eating every 90 mins during the day, and 2-3 times at night.  It's been going on for three weeks at least.  It's exhausting, but I guess he just needs that right now.  I find that I get agitated when I don't understand why he's behaving a certain way.  The crying fits during every nap and bedtime were really getting to me.  He was frantic when I tried to calm him and rock him to sleep as I've done since he was about a month old.  Then I realized he just needed to be put in his crib to soothe himself.  He was trying to tell me, but I was just too thick and stubborn to get it.

  • We had a nasty growth spurt about 2 weeks ago. It almost killed me. It did pass though, and she's back to STTN basically. Now I'm just trying to deal with the teething thing. BLAH

  • Sorry to hear that. We weren't up every hour, but we were up every other hour. He woke at 11, refused to go back down, and took another complete nursing session at midnight just to calm him back to sleep, only to wake back up at 2 and 4. I think his stomach was upset though. His antibiotic info said it could bother his stomach for 3 or 4 weeks after starting it. Ugh. I hope you get a nap sometime today!

  • My daughter sleeps through the night. Ethan is really hard to deal with at night, he screams bloody murder a lot when I put him down in his crib >: sometimes he sleeps there, sometimes he sleeps with me in my arms because that is the only way to calm him down. So I definitely get it!

  • Were you guys out a lot yesterday? D's feedings were so long yesterday because of this crazy heat. I have a made up theory that due to the heat my milk is more watery for hydration sake but less filling. It's totally made up but keeps me from getting grumpy when I don't get much of a break between nursing seasons.

  • Pilar went through that.  I was really bad the first time, but it got less and less.  I was super close to sleep sleep training.  She now wakes up only once a night unless something else is going on.  I do think it is a growth thing.  Sometimes she doesn't eat enough during the day and so she has to make it up during the night.  Sometimes she just seems to need an extra boast.  It does get better.

  • I'm so sorry you're still having a rough go. We did hourly feedings for two months, it is beyond exhausting. We were up every three last night and its crazy that feels restful compaired to before. I hope you can get a nap today and tonight goes better. Can anyone take her for a hour or two today so you can rest? Hang in there mama.

  • This sounds like us right now. I'm so exhausted and she's up for the day.

  • About the same, up every two hours still, and he eats like Im starving him. My LC says its a growth spurt, and feed him if he wants to eat. I have an appointment with her next Monday, as well as with our new pedi. Im hoping to get some insight and some gentle sleep training tricks, because now he.will not sleep unless hes in our bed. Im a tired momma.
  • L was up every hour too. She's been in the crib for a week and some nights it's 1-2 times up, other nights every hour. I have no idea why. The soothie, shushing and rubbing her belly works. I guess we've got sleep regression.

  • Poor you!  I feel your pain.  If he nursed every time maybe it's a growth spurt?  Or teething?  I know some babies find comfort in nursing when their teething.  My little man did that when my suppy tanked, do you think there are any supply issues?  Hang in there hope it gets better for you!

  • Ouch! I am sorry. Hopefully tonight is better for you.

Last night was one of J's best nights in a long while. He was asleep by 8, woke up at 8:45 (what we call his 45 minute freak out. It happens every.single.night) but he went right back to sleep with the paci. Then he was up at 11:38 (nursed him back to sleep), up at 2:30 (went back to sleep quickly with paci), up at 4:30 (nursed him back to sleep) up at 7:30 for the day.

I hope this means we are on the upward swing.

  • Christina: that's awesome!! Miniray: definitely not a supply issue, get plenty when I pump, still occasion leaking and fullness. Dragonmommy: sorry you're still in it but glad you got a new pedi Monkeybabe: sorry, hope you can get a nap too! Harpersmom: very interesting concept! Kind of makes sense! Vtwd40: I finally gave her Tylenol at 6 because her cries changed and she slept 2.5 hours so maybe teething? So sorry to everyone else going through it! But we're not alone and this too shall pass! I will be napping today and I hope some of you can too!!! Thank you for all the advice and encouragement! [sorry for wall of text, bump mobile]

We get the 45 minute freak out too. Annoying.

OP, I feel your pain. We seem to be through the hourly wakings now, but we had a rough few weeks. He's starting to give me a 3 or 4 hour stretch in the MOTN now, which I'll take any day of the week.

Now, if only I can start staying asleep that long...

  • I am so sorry, it definitely sounds like teething to me! When Lincoln started doing that a couple weeks ago, I checked his gums and he had little white spots and then within a few days his two front teeth had popped out. Now that they're the majority of the way in he's doing a little better. Last night he slept 9-3:45 but then was up again at 4:45 and wouldn't go back to sleep, even though I knew he was tired. DH finally got up with him at 5:00 so I could sleep. He ended up putting Lincoln into his jumper so he could run to the bathroom and when he came back out, he had fallen asleep! Haha hoping she sleeps better tonight for you!

I'm kind of hoping it's teething so at least there's a legit reason! Glad L is doing better! Cute story :]

  • Hey lady! :) Sorry I'm just now getting to your post.

I'm so sorry that sleep has been an issue. At least your not alone, eh? I purchased the No Cry Sleep Solution and I'm diving into it but also just going with the flow. We're taking baby steps and having a little bit of progress but nothing substantial. The problem over here is, now C will fall asleep in his crib AND put himself back to sleep when needed but *only* for the first 2-3 hours. Sometime between 10 and midnight he goes bonkers and wants in bed with me. By that point I'm so exhausted I cave in. Then at night I'm not getting rest because we're cosleeping and it's not comfortable so the whole next day I'm a zombie. But the time bedtime rolls around I have nothing left in me so we start the cycle again. He'll wake every hour or so when he sleeps with me too but it's normally because he wants to be right next to me rather than in his own space. I am just so frustrated, tired, sad... I don't feel like myself.

With that said, how often is she eating during the day? Is she getting distracted at all while eating? You might not feel comfortable with this but could you put a lovey in with her? He loves his taggie and I finally started putting it in with him after CPhillz advice and he'll kind of play with it and hug it back to sleep.

I wish I had tons and tons of advice but we're winging it over here too. You have my support and sympathy though because I know this isn't easy. I wish we all had a magic wand and could make these things happen so easily and quickly. Hang in there... It will get better! :)

  • You know it has been a rough several weeks when your best night only includes 4 wake ups in an 11 hour span.

  • Eav2c: don't want to quote all that but thank you so much! The way you worded everything was really helpful and encouraging! I know I'm not alone and that sucks for everyone going through it :(

She does sleep with a lovey but it doesn't really help her much. I think I need to look into the no cry sleep solution- it seems to be working for a few others too.

I totally cave in and bring in bed with me too but then sleep horribly as well :(

I'm just going to keep going with the flow and hope it ends soon! Let me know how he does with the no cry sleep solution in a few days :) good luck!
