DS has a pretty painful diaper rash. Desitin has always worked like a charm in the past but it's not helping this time. Any favorite creams or home remedies you could share?
It could be a yeast rash. DS gets them all the time! You can google it (gross pictures, but helpful) to see what it looks like. They seem to be a lot more intense than normal rashes and come on quickly and don't go away well. If you think that's what it is, you can use lotrimin or monistat cream on it. If it doesn't go away with those, you will need a prescription anti-fungal cream (we have an un-ending prescription at this point!) Also, give him lots of yogurt or a probiotic to help with the balance of good and bad bacteria and fungus in the body.
We use Pinxav. I'm not sure where to find it in stores. We get ours off amazon.com. It's a little expensive, but lasts forever.
This! Awesome stuff, works on every rash we've had. Only certain states carry it and it's found behind the pharmacy counter (no prescription needed). Also, there is a $4 off coupon for there website that can be found online.
We swear by triple paste. It's a little pricey but lasts a long time and really seems to work. I do agree that if you think it's a yeast infection though, definitely try lomotrin.

DS rarey gets diaper rash but if he just a little irritated I use Desatin. For the few times it's been more severe, I've used Triple Paste and it's fantastic. Clears everything up in less than 24 hours. It's pricey but a little goes a long way.

I've got a couple go-to methods. My lo just recently had a NASTY diaper rash, really the only truly bad one he's ever had. Usually he just gets a little red and I change him very often and it's better by bedtime. I called his pedi this time, and she suggested the following:
Calmoseptine. I had to ask the folks behind the Rx counter, because that's where they keep it. You don't need a script, and it isn't terribly expensive. I put it on at every diaper change. It isn't thick and pasty, it isn't impossible to get off, and he didn't seem to mind it.
When that didn't work and his rash got worse, we switched to Cortaid 3x/day (morning, noon, nighttime diap change) and cornstarch in between. I also used wash cloths and warm water instead of wipes. He was cleared up in no time.
I just want to say that this is what worked for my son. If your lo's rash gets really worse, I would suggest giving his pedi a call. I hope you find something that works! Good luck!
Our pediatrician is fond of saying "when there's a rash, there's yeast." Meaning that whenever there's some kind of moisture-related rash, some yeast is bound to be present. She gave us a prescription for Clomatrizole, I assume a very light concentration, but she says you can also get it OTC. We use that and then slater Weleda diaper cream over it, and it works. At least it starts to make things better, quickly.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Since it was late we didn't end up running out to the store to get any new cream/paste. We ended up using pure lanolin (I had some left over from BF) on the rash and sprinkling cornstarch on before the next diaper. By the morning it looked a little bit better. We changed diapers every 1 1/2 to 2 hours yesterday and kept applying the lanolin and cornstarch. I'm happy to say that it's 99% cleared up. I expect it to be totally gone by tomorrow. Yay! Thanks again!
Diaper rash occurs because the skin is irritated
by soiled diapers that are left on for too long, friction from the diaper, or
certain brands of detergent, soaps, or baby wipes on sensitive skin. The best
way to prevent diaper rash is by keeping your baby's skin as dry and clean as
possible and changing diapers often so that feces and urine won't irritate the
skin. And with the help of Essence of Argan , they offeran oil that can lessen skin rashes. Argan oil
is a rich source of essential fatty acids particularly linoleic acid which
protects the skin from harmful free radicals. It also contains a large amount
of vitamin A and E, which play a crucial role in improving skin condition. I use essence of argan and its great... they even have a free trial
offer which I took advantage of and am so thankful I did! Visit their site herewww.essenceofargan.com/trial
