Pregnant after 35

Holy deductable batman LOL

First off Praise the Lord we have insurance that pays for all my Drs visits but my gosh the deductable for the hospital will be $3000 plus 20% for anything over that.   I thought my husband was going to have a heart attack. LOL   Hope the hospital has a payment plan.

We could add AFLAC but they said we cant do this till January.. cant wait that long to go to the Dr. so I guess what is, is.

When we had our daughter my husbands pay was low enough that we filed for assistance which paid for anything our insurance did not.   He makes way too much now though.. which is a good thing.

So am i the only one who had a minor "spell" when looking over insurance papers?

Re: Holy deductable batman LOL

  • My deductible is 4k out of pocket and then they cover 80% until I hit 8k. After that it's 100%.

I get to enjoy paying that deductible twice since I am due in January.

     OYE!!!

  • ohh my goodness... twice?  I never thought about that. I am due in May... but from what I have read in our insurance papers they pay all of my office visits, no copay but it also does not go towards our deductable.. ugghh

Insurance is a blessing but is so hard to understand at times.

  • I did some digging on my insurance and as it stands my first OB appointment it paid $15.00 for my copay and all follow up visits are at no charge.  U/S are $15.00  and my hospital deductible is $200.00.  Thank God for great insurance and a great job.

  • I hope my company keeps this insurance, they keep talking about leaving this group that we are with, and I am afraid that our deductibles will change. Our plan year ends Dec 31, and our enrollement is November, so I have no idea what we end up with.

If we keep the same plan for next year, with my insurance I would pay the first visit's copay ($30) and no copay afterwards, for vaginal birth 48 hours of hospital at $200/nite copay, and c-section 96 hours of hospital, maximum copay of $800.

  • Insurance sucks!!! My deductible is 5k after that 30% of everything.

  • We have an HSA through my husband's work.  These are high deductible plans designed for healthy people who will hardly go to the doctor.  It's only paying for about 1/3 of all my appointments (OB, Nutritionist, Ultrasounds, & Labs). We'll have 90% coverage after I hit the $2500.00 deductible, which will pop to 3K once baby is put on the plan.  Luckily, we're just about to hit the deductible trigger for traditional coverage, however, that still leaves us with $2500.00 minus the $750.00 the company pays toward the deductible.  I suppose something's better than nothing, but MAN I wish we had the option of a traditional health care PPO plan right now.

  • I actually had to pay my full deductible to my OB office when I went to my confirmation of pregnancy appointment at 5 weeks. So there went a check for $1300 for next year. Annoying.

  • I hear ya!!!  I almost died when I heard about my deductible.  I work specifically to have health insurance since my DH is self employed, and it almost doesn't seem worth it at this point.  I could have gone on state assistance and not paid a dime....but hey, I'm trying to live an honest life and this is what I get:  a $2,000 deductible then 10% up to another $1,000 so its an out of pocket max of $3,000 for me, but get this....as soon as the baby is born, he gets his VERY OWN deductible!  There goes another $2,000 and possibly another $1,000 in coinsurance making the grand total $6,000!!!  I am sure I will get there since I have a planned c-section which means 3 possibly 4 nights at he hospital for both myself and the baby.  Holy schnikes!!!  The one saving grace: my plan year is 7/1 thru 6/30....and I'm due in February....thank goodness!!!!

  • Same for us $3000 deductible then 20% after that.  But our insurance does not pay for the office visits, that is included in the deductible.  We knew the story before we tried to get pregnant so we were prepared and have been saving.

  • It's a little confusing and no one can give you an exact tabulation of what your costs will be, which I find the most frustrating.

What I do know is that w/our BC/BS plan, I have a 1K deductible per individual (2K per family) and a $3500 max co-insurance (that's the 20% I pay after the 1K deductible is met). So bottom line that I figured out is that between this year and next, my max ceiling will be 9K- I hope we don't touch that, but the way things are, I'm sure we will. :(
  • Family deductible is $1500 which we already reached.  20% after that w/ an OOP max of $5000.  Our plan runs July-June so needless to say, since delivering, we'll have free medical care for the next 9 months. LOL

  • Our LO came as a surprise to us, so I never really looked into our insurance for having a baby.  Since I have become pregnant, I've gotten some big surprises on what we will be paying for.  Our insurance pays nothing but doctor's visits until you hit your deductible ($1000 for me, $2500 for family).  Between lab visits, u/s, etc. we get bills every week from someone.  On top of that our insurance is having issues and they keep denying claims in error.  Our plan year runs Jan-Dec and since I am due in Feb., we get to do it all over again next year.  Grrr
