I'm new to this board. I'm trying to get pregnant with my second child and the doctor has recommended I tried Clomid? Just wanted to know what your experiences where with Clomid. I am afraid of multiple births.... Below is a little about my background:
I had my DS in February of 2008. I have been trying to get pregnant again for the past two years. I did get pregnant in October of last year but had a miscarriage at about 6 weeks. (not sure what the cause was) I've been married for 9 years and have never been on birth control and have only been pregnant twice. My doctor suggested Clomid.
Re: Clomid?
Did your doctor do any diagnostic tests? You shouldn't just take clomid for no reason. Are you ovulating? Clomid can help you ovulate if you aren't. Or it can grow multiple follicles to up your chance of getting pregnant in a cycle as there are more targets for the sperm to fertilize. But there is absolutely a risk of multiples. You also should be monitored via ultrasound and bloodwork while on clomid. Most Ob/gyn will not do that and it is dangerous to not be monitored. You could over-respond and have too many follicles, making it unsafe to try to get pregnant due the risk of high order multiples.
OB's tend to give out clomid like candy. It's not a good thing.

Thanks for the advice. My OB did take my bloodwork and said everything was fine. I will follow-up with her interms of monitoring while I'm on Clomid
Clomid also has a lifetime max of 6 cycles. And that's lifetime. After that, you have too high a risk of cancer.
Personally, I hated the side effects of Clomid. I was only on it for 2 months. Unmonitored. I'm ambivalent about the need to be monitored, since the increase in multiple eggs is minimal (under 10%). But if you're one of those who responds strongly, it could be dangerous. Either way, it warrants a serious discussion with your doctor, who should be taking the conversation very seriously and give you thorough information. I agree that the docs tend to hand that out like candy.
My RE says Femara might be a better option for me, so I'll be pursuing that next cycle.
My aunt, however, required Clomid 2 out of 3 of her pregnancies/children. So it must work for some people!

This exactly. And for me personally, I think it was a waste of time.
I wish I had seen these posts earlier
I have a total of 3 rounds of clomid but I wasn;t being monitored....I also really wish that my dr's told me to temp too, my doula suggested it, since I am seeing a specialist in NOv I decided to temp before so he wouldn't waste months temping...if that is eeven a question.
This month I was on Tamoxifen...supposedly thickens the uterine lining, where clomid can thin it out...I think progesterone is my issue.....
