leasing our apt out..

DH and I are trying to move closer to my family and decided to try before winter hits and makes everything exponentially suckier, so we're looking for someone to take over our lease. Has anyone had any experience leasing an apartment out (not just subletting)? We've put up an ad on Craigslist, but I wanted to see if there were any of you who had any luck on any other site. TIA!

  • No experience but just a forwarning that when I tried I got tons of scammers contacting me. It was so annoying!!! Also, it might be worth posting in your local newspaper. GL!!

Ooo, thank you!! Ugh, that is annoying. Craigslist can be so so good, and soo evil. Hopefully we won't get any weirdos or scammers...thats a good idea about the paper!

  • I had a very bad experience leasing out my condo on craigslist. Long story short - we signed a lease and the chick ended up with the keys but hadn't yet paid rent and deposit. It was halfway into the month and luckily she was nice enough to give up the keys and confess she didn't have the money (WTF?) but I still lost out on a months rent.

If it's in your budget, I highly recommend getting a management company to do the dirty work for you. It's soooo worth the money and you just get your rent deposited every month! No headache of dealing with tenants.

    Good luck!
