Not doing whole cows milk

My friend sent me a you tube video about how bad cows milk is to drink. I googled it and found more websites spreading the bad news of cows milk. I never thought about giving anything else but now maybe. I'm still not sold on this idea and was wondering what other mommies were doing. So what do you do? What do you give if you don't give WCM? Thanks!

Re: Not doing whole cows milk

  • We are doing WCM. I am a pedi RN and an not convinced it's as bad as people are trying to make it... The evidence is just not there. I know some do almond milk, soy milk, etc. but that isn't something we are going to explore :)

  • I think its pretty nasty if you stop to think about it, but on the other hand I don't intend to cut out dairy and if you do cut it or limit it severely it is very easy to become intolerant. As strange as it may seem, I have no desire to cause my LO to become intolerant to anything so common.

  • Depending on how DD2's milk and soy allergies pan out we may have no other option but to feed an alternative.  We will likely alternate almond, rice, and coconut milk.

  • People have been giving their babies whole milk for a LONG time.... while I agree that some accomplishments in science are great and helpful, others just make people paranoid. If WCM is what my pedi recommends (and at this point it is) then I will be giving it to him when he turns 1 year.
  • we'll be doing cows milk but researching organic and hormone free options.

  • we're doing breastmilk until she's at least 2 and will probably be skipping WCM. DH and I dont really drink it.
  • planning to keep nursing til til 3 but will add in soy or rice milk or a non dairy version unless LOs dairy related eczema stops. they have yogurt here and there now but if they eat too much dairy it flares up for them so I'll have to see how it is over time but DH and I dont drink cows milk so I'd rather it just be now and then but mainly breast milk and soy

  • My pediatrician actually said we could give cow's milk as early as 10 months.  I drink only organic and thats what I plan for my son.  Cow's milk is healthier than any other, there's nothing wrong with it.  But you have to do what you are comfortable with. : )
  • I love milk, but even if I didn't we would still be giving WCM. WCM is full of important fats that you can't really get from alternative milks.

  • We plan on doing WCM but going the organic route for DS. No extra antibiotics for this LO.
