Can you please share your story with me? My cousins GF is pregnant but she's been texting me asking about my m/cs because she thinks she might be having one. Or the beginning of one, it isn't bad yet. She has PCOS and is afraid if she loses this baby, that it may never happen. I was looking for some positive experience, even if it involves a struggle, to share with her. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I'm hoping she is just worrying and that everything is ok. She's in the first tri, first pregnancy. But if not, I'd like to share some positive stories with her.

Re: If you overcame PCOS...
T & P's for your friend. Hopefully everything will be okay.
I have/had PCOS but it isn't the best story but I guess I will share it anyways.
DH and I were TTC just over 1 year. We started TTC in June 2010. I wasn't getting my period and that is why I went to the doctor. After many tests on myself (and DH) I was told by 2 different doctors that I had PCOS. I didn't have many symptoms of PCOS besides not having my period and having a thyroid problem. I did Clomid with no success. I was then told by both doctors that I would not be able to get pregnant with out doing the next step which was IUI and then IVF. I was also told I wasn't ovulating. I was told this June 2011. DH and I were not ready to take that next step at that time. I got pregnant August 2011.
It is crazy how things work out. DH and I both truly believe that what is meant to happen will happen.
Hopefully everything will work out for her.
I went off BC the day after Christmas 2009. We tried, then we charted and in February 2011 at my annual gyn I was diagnosed since we had not gotten pregnant, my cycles were all over the place, weight gain and I forget what else I was referred to an infertility doctor. We wanted to try another two months on our own before accepting the help. My first appt was in April, we both had lots of testing done. I went through 3 cycles of 50 mg clomid before being moved up to 100 mg. I had one follicle of normal size and another a few days behind which turned into 2 at my 5 week ultrasound
I found 2 girls I was friends with had been diagnosed PCOS before me, and they were awesome to talk about what was going on plus what was ahead. One, my bf, is still trying 4 yrs later. Clomid, IUIs didn't work and ins won't cover the new meds or IVF so now they are back to trying on their own. I feel so bad for her/them. Infertility shouldn't be so shameful and hidden.. =(
The first thing I tried was acupuncture which I know isn't for everyone but I think it really did help me in the long run. After a few months of that with no success my OB wanted to put me on clomid. On that day, I joined the bump and started posting on TTTC. The ladies there gave me great advice and told me to see a reproductive endocrinologist who could monitor me while I was on the medication, so that's what I did.
I hadn't ovulated in probably over a year on the day of my first RE visit. To our surprise when the doctor did the ultrasound he noticed one follicle that looked like it justtttt might ovulate so they gave me a shot of HCG to encourage ovulation. The goal behind this was so that I'd ovulate, get my period two weeks later, and then I could begin testing and treatment. Well, my period never came and that little follicle I saw on the screen ended up becoming my sweet baby Violet.
I was truly blessed to get pregnant with no real medical intervention. I do think the acupuncture is what got me to the point of ovulating. I'll never know how difficult it will be to get pregnant again which is why I'm constantly stressing about when to start trying.
Best of luck to your friend! FWIW, I was told I was going to miscarry every week until 9 weeks due to super low HCG and progesterone levels. I was on progesterone injections and eventually vagibal suppositories. Obviously I didn't miscarry because I've got a baby on my boob right now. So I hope she ends up carrying the pregnancy.
This was written on bump mobile so excuse the lack of punctuation.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 6 years ago but had been experiencing symptoms for a few years prior to that. Within those six years I only got a menstrual cycle a handful of times. Probably about twice per year. About 7 months before we conceived my cycle became regular.
I stopped listening to doctors advice of taking bc and used herbal remedies. It worked for me but I do not suggest people ignore advice of doctors, it just was not for me.
Though we were not 'trying' we certainly were not preventing and were dtd during ovulation to no avail. We conceived with no medical intervention and to me it was amazing to me. Six years before that doctors told me I would not be able to conceive with out medical intervention.
I was scared during the beginning of my pregnancy too of mc. It did not happen but for someone with PCOS it is a real fear. I hope everything works out for her and remind her that stress will not help anything. It is possible for someone with PCOS to have a healthy pregnancy with or without strong medical intervention.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

I never noticed an issue with my cycles before I was on BCP. I went off BCP in 1/2010 and my 'cycles' (if you can even call them that) were all over the place - I mostly just spotted on and off and never really had periods. After a year of that, I got dx with PCOS early 2011, and due to my age (30 at the time), my OB recommended that if I didn't get pg within 6 more months to come back and we would talk Clomid. So I kept charting and trying to lose weight (did WW), and finally started ovulating. Once I started ovulating I realized I had a short LP, so I started taking vitamin B6. I got pg on my last cycle before I was going to have to start meds. They watched my pg a little closely at first but I was blessed to have a healthy pregnancy. No GD, and BFing hasn't been a problem.
