are your LO's crying differently?

My LO used to fuss before he cried, if he cried. He could go days without crying. I guess I was lucky because he rarely cries. Lately, when LO cries, it is very different from when he was a newborn. 

His cries are loud (like he is screaming) and his cries sound a little forced. He used to stop crying as soon as I picked him up. Now he will continue to cry in that manner until I stand up and rock him. Then suddenly, he stops. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Have you experienced a difference in your LO's cries?

    I don't know if her cries changed or if I can tell better what she wants. She always gives a warning before crying (coughing kind of cry), so I avoid letting the full blown cry. But there s the hungry, tired, and scared cries. I didn't notice these many cries before.

    Yes! It's definitely different now, a variety of different fusses & cries.  I can usually tell what she needs while she is still in the fussy stage (tired, bored, wet diaper, hungry). The worst is when she holds her breath for a second before really letting out a scream. That was her 'pain' cry yesterday : ( She got two shots yesterday and when I was changing her diaper I must have brushed her legs with the diaper and she let out the loudest scream. My bad mommy moment of the week : (

    oh, drbethc, just remembered your post from the other day. Do you think it's related to teething? Is it a pain cry?

    Yeah DD has definitely differentiated her cries based on what she needs and how upset she actually feels. Shes also pretty 'verbal', so her latest thing is actually complaining in her baby language before starting to cry (complete with facial expressions and changing intonation- it's pretty amusing!). She only does that when she's not super upset, though.

    Not sure about the screaming and sudden stopping, though... Maybe it's just a new way to react to whatever's upsetting him?

    I can still distinguish the hungry, tired, needing comfort cries and definitely get to him while he is still in the fussing stage, therefore, those rarely turn into anything. In the last few days, there are no warnings, as soon as I put him down, he yells and screams a forced cry...I just realized as I'm writing this that he is probably going through a growth spurt. He's eating every hour even at night again and is clingy and doesnt want to be put down. I guess its been awhile since we went through a growth spurt and today LO is 3.5 months.

    It doesnt sound like a pain cry...more like a little bit of a tantrum cry...but of course I know he's not tantruming...but the cry reminds me of an older child. I definitely thought LO was teething..Now I'm not so sure...I'm thinking its probably a growth spurt.
