If your kids get cold sores...

How often do they get them?  I read that by the time we are 50 years old, 90% of us have the virus that causes cold sores.  wow

  • He had his first outbreak at just over a year. I had a cold sore over Christmas last year, and he was into open mouthed kisses at the time.

Since then, maybe 2 times? He gets one when he's run down with something else. He's got one now because he's had a cold and ear infection.

  • My kids don't get them...yet.  But I have gotten them for as long as I can remember.  When I was younger, I got them a lot in the summer from the sun until we figured out that I need to wear strong sunscreen lip balm.  Otherwise I get them when I'm stressed or sick.  I'm sure the same went for when I was younger...but I obviously didn't get stressed until I was older.

With a stressful job I was getting them a lot.  Without that, I get them a couple times per year, if that.  When I was younger, I'd probably have about 6-10 breakouts per year.

  • Jake gets them... when he gets a fever or other sickness. They SUCK!!! They best I've found for them is "Herpacin-L" it's like a chapstick. Start putting it on when it first starts and it goes away quickly. :)
