Hi all,
We are moving to the DFW area and I have questions! This board seems to have suffered the fate of my local board with the switch in formats. We all went to FB. Where is everybody?
We are looking at the northern suburbs of Flower Mound, Coppell, maybe Highland Village, maybe Colleyville and Southlake. I need help with pediatricians, dentists, places to live, etc etc. Anyone out there?
Re: Ack! Moving to DFW area and need answers! Where is everybody?
Of all of the above, I believe Coppell has the best rated schools, and you will pay for it in home prices! I live in Flower Mound and we love it. We've been there about a year. Very family oriented and everything you need is near by. The schools in FM are great, it is part of the Lewisville ISD.
Highland Village is also nice, they have some really nice shopping. Don't know much about the schools.
Not sure about Colleyville and Southlake, have not heard anything bad about them, I just never go over that way. It depends on where you or your DH works, and what kind of commute you'd like to have. There is some major construction going on on 121, just north of the airport...traffic is a mess. So if you're working in Dallas, I would stay away from Colleyville and Southlake to avoid having to go that way.
Just some ideas...
Thanks ladies. Right now our front runners are Flower Mound and Coppell (and maybe Highland Village.) DH works all over town and travels A LOT so being close to DFW (20-25 minutes in traffic) is a must so that pretty much narrows things down quite a bit. I have done loads of research on schools so I am comfortable with the schools in those three areas for sure. But I am at a loss for other things like pediatricians, dentists, OBGYNs, GPs, etc. I hate this part about moving! I hate the new doctors, new hair stylist, new Thai place, etc. And then there's the trying to get out and meet people and find new babysitters. Ugh.
Megperk, we keep hearing great things about Flower Mound. Most everyone we've talked to says you can't go wrong there. Right now I am leaning towards that over Coppell given the premium for houses and taxes in Coppell. I worry about how bad traffic is getting OUT of Flower Mound though. We're making a trip next week to narrow down our options and drive rush hour traffic (Fun! Because who doesn't want to travel to a town simply to gauge traffic patterns? Sounds like a blast, right?)
I have to agree about FM, we really like it. Very nice family feel. I wouldn't like it so much if I were single, but great for families. The traffic in FM is not bad at all, the roads are all very well planned and, even though it sounds like a little "hick" town, the main roads are 4-6 lanes and I have never been stuck in traffic. Sometimes Grapevine can get hairy, down by Grapevine Mills mall, but that's to be expected. FM is very easy to navigate. I come home from North Dallas (635/Tollway), and take 635 all the way to 121, which turns into 2499. It takes about 30 minutes unless there is a wreck on 635, but most days it is fine.
As far as doctors....my OB is close to my office in Dallas, and our pediatrician is in Carrollton. When DD was born we were living in Carrollton, so we just stayed with that practice because we really like them and it's only about 20 minutes away, straight across Hebron to Josey. My dentist is also by my office, so that doesn't help you much either. FM has loads of family practices and dentists offices, so don't worry. Like I said, the town seems to have been built for the family lifestyle so you won't have a problem finding something you like.
Thank you for all the recommendations! This gives me a few people to check out so that's helpful. We are in town this weekend to purchase. We really like Coppell for its location and the small town feel but the housing market is pretty competitive there. Everything we're seeing backs up a major road or has some other lot issue working against it.
There are two neighborhoods in Flower Mound that we really like - if I had to bet I would put my money on our ending up in FM because it's more affordable and the amenities are great. We shall see!
Thanks again for the recos, ladies. It is very much appreciated!
