I didnt' have a c-section but I read in several places to bring books, magazines to pass the time and like the first time mom that I was I did. I brought baby books and several magazines. Ha, what a waste! Insert me rolling my eyes--I didn't have one moment in my labor experience to leisurely flip through a magazine.
Yeah right...between visiting with family, attempting to nurse DD and trying to sleep there was not time to read!!! Pack as little as possible and sleep as much as you can while you are in the hospital!
I think I still have this delusional view of labor. With Maddox I hit the ground running - was like 8 cm and screaming through transition by the time I got settled in my hospital bed. I have this dreamy view of sitting relaxed in the hospital reading and bonding happily with DH and the nurses next time.
A friend of mine who just had her 3rd was so delighted at the idea of her and her DH having only a single infant to care for for several nights that she said that the hospital experience was just one set of Frette sheets away from a second honeymoon.
haha, no. I brought a book I was reading and a magazine and they went totally untouched. Between the nurses coming every 2 hours, the OB checks, pedi, LC's all visiting inbetween; then having family and friends coming by to visit, AND trying to get some rest somewhere in there, snuggling DS, and BFing, there just wasn't time.
I didn't have a c-section, but I wanted to share. I had time breathing through contractions that the only thing that keep me sane for a few hours was to be play on my iphone and that was before the baby arrived. Once C arrived I was never in my room for those 3 days, always down at the NICU. And at night when I was at the hospital, away from C, I was either pumping or trying to sleep.
I didn't have a c/s and I didn't bring anything to read, BUT...My water broke, we went to the hospital and then it was like 15 hours until contractions got bad enough that I couldn't concentrate. Before that we were trying to sleep and kind of bored. We played a lot of Angry Birds and I might have read if I had something to read. I didn't read or play on my phone at all after he was born (other than to post to FB once or twice).

oh yeah. .. I would have read before, if I was in labor or something probably. Just that with the scheduled c/s, we went in at noon, E was here by 2, and then we were too busy/tired afterward.
I didn't have a c-section for either, but one I was in labor on my own and the second I was induced. I didn't read with either....with DS1 there was just too much going on and with DS2 my induction started at like 1 am, so I used the earlier part of it to try and sleep, and by morning I was too uncomfy to try and read. I can see reading if you have a long, drawn out induction maybe.

Definitely. Sorry, I wasn't paying attention - my comment doesn't make much sense in the context of c-sections only!

I did not have a c-section but I did not read during labor. Now after I managed to since there were the times when no one was visiting and the baby was sleeping. I read more with C than I did with B since my recovery was so much smoother.
I had 2 scheduled c/s and I'm pretty sure I read both times. Nothing scholarly but I know I brought a book both times and I'm pretty sure I cracked it open both times. I can't say that I finished it and I can't remember what book it was but I have memories of reading.
I actually read a lot during those first weeks, I was stuck on the couch or in bed nursing or holding a sleeping baby.

DH bought me a Kindle and presented it to me once we first got settled in the room thinking it'd be a while before anything serious began (I was induced after they discovered low fluid). Hah, my little girl understands direction and when we told her it was time to get out, she wasted no time! Afterwards (both days) I was so exhausted that thinking about reading the food menu was taxing, let alone an actual book!
For my repeat c-section there definitely was no time to read. I was at the hospital at 11, surgery set for 1 and after recovery we were just a little busy adjusting.
I didn't, but that is because I did not have a book.
I was going to take my Kindle, but listened to other people's advice that I wouldn't have time to read. I actually did, DD slept a lot (maybe side effect from the general anesthesia?) and the tv had very limited channels.
Re: s/o re c/sections - did you read at the hospital?
LOLing right there with ya.

Someone's getting a little brother!
