Poll: what is your LO's heritage?

I find geneology/heritage to be fascinating....what's your heritage? I could just say American, but what fun is that? Since my son has a different "donor" we have a mixed bag.

My boy is:

Irish, English, German, Polish, French, Russian, Greek, Mexican, Saco Indian and Apache Indian.

My girl is:

Irish, English, German, Polish, French and Italian. Sicilian to be specific.

Re: Poll: what is your LO's heritage?

  • Me: 50% Greek. The other 50 is Hungarian, Ukranian, Polish, and some kind of american indian.

SO: 50% Filipino. Other 50% is pretty much a big mix.

Pretty much DS is 25% Greek, 25% Filipino, and then 50% mutt.. haha. I'm curious to see if the what traits are going to be dominant. I look like I could be 100% Greek.

  • So cool everyone! Thanks! I just find it interesting what genes make themselves known. It seems like our Polish genes are dominant in my family.

  • I am a mutt. I know I'm French, English, German, Italian and probably a billion other things. DH is 1/4 Mexican, and a mix of German, Scottish, etc, etc.

So DD is 1/8 Mexican and the rest is a total mix.

Here's a question: Should I check the Hispanic box on forms for her? What's the statue of limitations on that? I know she's only an 1/8, but it's more than anything else and she has a Spanish last name. I don't know the proper protocol here!

  • I'm German, English, Austrian, and Italian

DH is Italian, Greek, and Polish

so basically our kids are just a big mix of things.  Also, I met a woman from Ireland recently and this subject came up.  She kind of laughed when I mentioned nationality.  She thought it was funny that Americans are always talking about what nationality they are, when in her eyes we're all just American.  I tried explaining how most of our grandparents/great grandparents came from other countries.  She said even if her parents had come from another country to Ireland she would still just consider herself Irish.

  • I'm 25 portuguese from the Azores so we're a bit whiter than most, then german, greek, irish

DH is irish, choctaw indian, and a little german.. Other than his lighter coloring he looks native

Our kids look portuguese and native american I've been told. High cheek bones, almond eyes, curly hair and such.

DD1 has a slightly different heritage from her "donor" only in that he was 25 cherokee indian. She looks exactly like me as a child, but she looks native too.

I live in Ireland, and this is very true. I always say Greek and Irish when people ask me what my background is in the US but would always say I am American when here in Ireland. My kids will say they are Irish when asked, which is weird to me!

  • I am Swedish, Italian, German, and a little Norwegian

H is British and French Canadian, possibly with some German as well (his family has been in the U.S. forever)

DD's name (Elsa) is a name in every single one of those languages, which I think is pretty cool.
