Why can't I give DD fish yet?

Pedi said hold off on fish until 12 mo. I had already given her tilapia. We eat a lot of fish and I hate to make 2 meals that night. Anyone know why I can't give her fish? No fish allergies in the family btw.

Hmm, my pedi never said anything and I've given him fish a few times since about 8mo old. He's had talipia and even shrimp.

My Dr. said anything but honey is fine (even PB).

If she has had it, I would continue. Each pedi is different though, There are some on my BMB that started fish at 78 months.I personally am holding off on shellfish, but IMO that's a whole different ball game nbsp;

I agree, I would continue to give it to her. Tilapia should be fine although I would still avoid the ones that have higher mercury levels.

This. Although for us we aren't giving fish or shellfish yet but my family has crazy sea food allergies so it worries me. I eat fish with no problems but I myself get worried eating shellfish so I prefer not to give it to DS yet.

Ours told us that we can give dd anything we want that isn't hard or a choking hazard at her 9 month appointment. He's old and seen it all, but stays very up to date and gets published often so I totally trust his recommendations. He's fantastic, you should go to him lol.

I've never heard that. Maybe he just wants you to avoid fish because certain types are high in mercury? I am avoiding shellfish for now, but DD has had salmon.

It's not recommended to hold off on anything but honey unless there is clear immediate family history of allergic reactions. DS has already had fish.

Our only restrictions were raw honey and whole milk until LO is a year. I guess it is because of allergens but still..... just stick with what your pedi says and if you don't agree (and have other issues with your pedi) I would get a new one. Rather switch now when your LO doesn't recognize the doc yet

Our pedi encouraged fish! I asked at her 9 month about shellfish and her pedi said go ahead. I have always been encouraged to give her anything and everything. If she already has eaten it then keep going.
