Great Children's Books

Not sure if anyone has read these but I recently discovered them and I love 'em!

I Like Myself (and) I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! both by Karen Beaumont. Just thought I'd share for all my fellow children's book lovers.

Re: Great Children's Books

  • Thank you! I was actually thinking about making a post asking about everyone's favorite children's books. I want to buy some more.

  • I love those books! I read Ain't Gonna Paint No More to my 1st graders and talk about our painting rules before we paint for the first time each year.

That is so cute! I told dh that I really hope that ds is into reading and I want to buy him a lot of books for Christmas because he won't need that many things at that point. He is already starting to like me reading to him as long as he can grab the pages some.

  • I'm pretty sure I have a book addiction.  DS1 loves to read as do both my husband and I.  LO would prefer to eat the books at this point but the books I mentioned above are sing song-y and rhyme so they're perfect!

That's a really good idea for Christmas! I love books and have a massive amount of children's books from teaching even though I teach art I love reading to the little ones!. I hope DD loves to read, too. She likes the cloth books we have and she really likes to eat them lol.

  • Those would be great for older DD. Although if we even hint at suggesting a certain book to read it gets shunned right now. A new book arrived today and she "read it" happily to herself but went bananas when I tried reading it to her. She is frustrated that she can only read books she has memorized but won't let us teach her or help her. Thank goodness for teachers and schools! :-)

  • We're really digging Sandra Boynton right now! LO also loves the illustrations in The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

I hate to laugh but DS1 used to do this.  Actually, her "reading to herself" is a precursor to actual reading.  I bet she'll read when she's 4 like DS1 did.  And yep, those books would be great for her.

my mom was telling me last night how I was the same way. I would tell her that she can't read the book, but I would "read" it to her. I remember doing this too. I really thought I was reading but for some reason could only read a few books. I also thought that I was the only person who could read without saying it outliud. Then in 1st grade the teacher told the class that everyone should read something to themselves and no on read outloud and then I realized that I wasn't special. Lol, kids are weird.

  • LOVE I ain't gonna paint no more!  I use in storytime and we sing it.  We usually give the kids a paint brush to sing a long and pretend to paint each part!
