Some people don't like the boy-names-on-girls, but I don't mind, particularly in cases like this, where it's a long-established nn for a feminine name (Samantha/Sam, Jacqueline/Jackie, Josephine/Jo, etc.).
EDIT: I'd also disagree with it being a "long standing nickname for Charlotte." I've never heard it before this board and I've known several Charlottes.
Charlie was a top-1000 name for girls every year from 1880 until 1951. This correlates very closely with Charlotte's last popularity boom (top-100 from 1908-1953), suggesting that many of those Charlottes may have gone by the popular nickname. In pop culture, the musical "Charlie Girl" debuted in 1965 (the character's given name is Charlotte). Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood is the girl in Top Gun (1986). There were even Charlotte/Charlies in the 19th century ? Queen Victoria's granddaughter, Charlotte of Prussia (b. 1860) was nicknamed Charly.
It's true that Charlotte nn Charlie had a lull in the 1950s-1990s, which is when most of the people known to our generation were born. But it's really just another old lady name come around again.
Not a fan. Charlotte is a beautiful, feminine name and I can't imagine putting a pretty obvious boy's name with it. Our Charlotte just goes by Charlotte so far. We tossed around several nicknames, but nothing has stuck so far. (except for the silly, around-the-house nicknames.)
I think it's really cute. Another cute NN for Charlotte is Lottie.
You might just wait until she's born and see what comes naturally. We picked DD1's name (Monica) because there were no natural NNs (I hate NNs). Within a week, we were both calling her "Monny." Your H might warm up to Charlie once she's here, or you might find something completely out of the blue that suits her even better.
Ugghh. So not a NN person, especially when giving girls a boys NN. Why can't girls be named and called girls names!? I like Charlotte and see no reason why you have to give her a boys NN. I've never allowed my kids names to be shortened into NN's, even though people have tried.

I like it, but DH nixed Charlotte as a first name because he did NOT.
I should also point out a similar name: Alex as a nn for Alexandra, Alexia, Alexis, etc. I have heard Alex on far more women than men. Even our midwife is Alex! DH STILL wants to name DS Alexander, because it is a strong, traditional male name. Every time I tell someone the name, they say what a good, strong name it is. Similarly, Charles is a strong, traditional male name, and always will be.
I've heard of Lottie/Lotty as a nn for Charlotte. I don't love Char or Charlie but that's only because it's my dog's name, which is no one's fault but mine lol.
Charlotte is such a classic, beautiful name that I think it speaks for itself. I strongly dislike predetermined nicknames, period, but I have a special hatred for Charlie as a nickname for Charlotte. I think it cheapens an otherwise gorgeous name. Our daughter is going to be named Charlotte and that's what we are going to call her. Maybe Lottie if it fits, but I love Charlotte all on it's own.

This. I have a niece named Charlotte, and we just call her Charlotte.
I love it. I was thinking of creating a post asking what full names I could use if I wanted to call a DD Charlie because I like Charlie even better than Charlotte but I think a baby needs a 'long' name.
I think it's really hard to determine what nickname will be used for a child. She might get here and your husband, or dad, or MIL, or whoever will call her Sprinkles and that'll stick. But, I read a lot of Super Fudge as a kid.
Re: Charlie as a nickname for Charlotte?
It's fine.

I dig it! I'm not a fan of full boy names on girls but as a nickname I think it's spunky and fun!
I used to teach a little girl named Charlotte Annabelle and they called her Charley Ann. I always thought it was fun!
I love it too! Also fan of boy names for girls!

Same here.
We're naming our little one Charlotte/Charlie. People can hate on it, but she's ours.
As the mother of a Charles/Charlie, to me it is and always will be a BOY name.
I dread the day some bully tells my son he has a girl's name.
On a girl, all I think of is that crappy perfume from the 80s.
Yea I agree with all of this. I am not a NN person, I think it's because I have NN of Katie or Kate but my given name is Katherine and never liked it.

I think its cute!
I prefer Charlie to Lottie, but we couldn't use it b/c BIL is Charlie.
Other options: Lotta, Lola, Charlow (prn Sharlow), Arlo, Harlow, Harley, Sherry, Cherry, Chase, Carly, Carla, Carrie, Cara, CeCe, Hallie, Orla, Etta, Lettie
Charlie, Lottie and Char (prn Shar) will get you the least side-eyes though.
