Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Frogs and fertility?!?

So this may be a strange story to some, but may give some hope to others so thought I'd share.

I had a m/c - blighted ovum and was 8w. My D&C was yesterday morning.  DH was up before me and told me a strange story about how he saw a "critter" in the house moments before I awoke.  Now, he has lived in this house for 13 years and never experienced anything like this before.   He saw something move out of the corner of his eye and when he looked in the dining room he saw a tiny, little frog.  He was covered in dust and lint like he had crawled out of a vent somewhere (I've never even seen a frog in our yard).  He was very much alive and hopping around.  DH picked him up, brought him outside, hosed him off and let him go.

DH told me this story and I was in awe.  Not simply because of a frog in our home, but get this...My very good friend, when she learned of my m/c, mailed me a frog "fetish" (a Native American carved stone) a week or two ago.   When I looked up its meaning I found, to my amazement, that it represents: Fertility, life transitions, luck, rebirth, renewal, healing.  The little frog was exactly the same size as this stone!  I'm sure this makes me sound like a quack kind of person, but believe me - these kind of things never happen to me!

I have so much hope because of that little guy and I keep thinking about it today.  He hopped into our life the morning of my D&C - it couldn't have been more meaningful!

Have any of you had "strange" experiences such as this that gave you a sense of hope?

  • Your story gave me chills!  That is awesome, I totally believe in meaningful signs -they totally pop up when you least expect them.  I haven't had any strange experiences, I don't think... but I'm happy for you that thinking about that lil frog brought you some sense of comfort and peace.  Luck to you!

  • Signs are a wonderful thing. I do believe that frogs can symbolize fertility in animal totem medicine. My husband kept seeing them in our yard the week we did get our bfp. I think it is important to always be hopeful.

For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
  • That's a nice story.  Thanks for sharing.   I learned this week that at 8 weeks, 2 days, there was no HB.  I was on my back porch the day after and a beautiful hummingbird flew up a few feet in front of me and hovered for a long time staring at me.  The logical side of my brain reminds me that we look for meaning in things we see to help us heal.   But it was nice to take a moment to appreciate the beauty in nature and I was thankful it visited me.

  • That is an incredible story! I absolutely believe in things happening for a reason, and signs and things of the sort. That looks like a very good sign, and to come to you at such a difficult time must be a nice comfort for you. I am sorry for your loss and wish you the best
