Face "rash" from snot?

Hi,

Now DS has a bit of a "face rash" or some sores under his nose from his persistent runny nose... I think it's from snot sitting on his face overnight.  What can I do to help them heal/not get worse?  I put vaseline under his nose just now because that is what I'd do if it were my face.  Any other suggestions?

  • It might be impetigo. That would need an antibiotic cream. However, if it's just redness from being wet (like chins chapping from drool when teething), vaseline would be a good barrier so it can heal.

  • DD1 used to get a rash around her mouth from drool trapped under her nuk. We would make sure her face was very dry and put Aquaphor on before bed, and that helped a lot.

  • my daughters eczema gets really bad when ever she has any type of cold.  What happens is, is that she gets her eczema and than a type of staph gets in there and it gets all over her face.  So sometimes she needs an antibiotic.  If it is just chapped, etc. aquaphor is a good choice to use, but its greasy like vaseline.

Just a thought, but as always call the pedi if you think you should :)

  • We use aquaphor too. Either from excessive drooling when teething (use on her chin), or under/on her nose when she gets a little cold which gets a little raw from the constant wet drip & my keenex wiping.  I put it on right after bathtime before bed, during the 5 minutes her face is actually clean & dry.

Nailed it!  Brought him to the doctor for a prescription.

  • Another Aquafor lover here.  Make sure you get the baby kind (near the diaper rash creams).
