Parenting after a Loss

DD is a horrible eater :(

It is so frustrating. She HAS gotten better (it was beyond bad in the beginning) but still, at least half of her feedings are complete struggles. We've tried EVERYTHING -- gripe water, mycolin drops, switching formulas, etc etc. I've been feeding her for the last 45 minutes and she's only taken 2 ounces -- I'm giving up on this bottle :(

I still blame myself because my milk never came in and we really started off on the wrong foot. Sorry, just needed to vent. She's gaining weight so I know she is fine but it I just wish eating time could be a happy time. I'm so jealous of those babies who down their bottles in 10 minutes with no problems.

  • but, she is a great sleeper. :)

don't blame yourself - you did nothing wrong. mother's guilt is the worst, isn't it? :(

  • My DD takes forever to eat a bottle too!  She does move a little faster than Avery (4oz. in 45 min) but everybody who sees her comments on it and it is frustrating.  Yesterday I brought her to work and someone kept harping in the fact that I should get her a faster nipple b/c she was working too hard to get the formula.  She is just a lazy eater, it was the main problem with breastfeeding.  As long as she is gaining weight, she is good.  Now....tell me how in the world you get her to sleep for so long?!
  • I'm sorry : (

DD was a terrible, terrible eater for a LONG time.  It's finally better, but it would take an hour to feed her and it was real work to get food into her.  For the first two months we practically poured the formula and BM down her throat because she was content to eat half an ounce and only half an ounce.

My sisters and I were all preemies and even my mom remarked about how difficult it was to feed Kate for the first 3 months or so.

She's never downed a bottle in 10 minutes and even now, she only wants to take 4 ounces at a time and is nowhere near ready for solids.

Good luck!  I hope it gets better for you soon!!

  • feeding issues SUCK.

Robbie has horrible reflux and before we got his meds right, he'd fight the bottle every time. Even now he does it sometimes. He's a preemie and has some issues with his suck reflex, too.. it's a mess.

Last month he was dx with Failure to Thrive because he's gaining weight so slowly.. I feel like ALL I do is feed him.

I keep trying to remind myself that someday this will all be a distant memory, but for now.. it's just battle after battle.
