Baby Names

Is there a way to make Craig feminine?

Craig is a family name on DH's side and it was sort of understood that when we had a son Craig would be the middle name (I was fine with that).  However, now we are having another girl and are done and I feel a little bad that a multi-generational tradition is going to sort of end with DH.  :(  So I was trying to come up with a "girl" version of Craig, and I've got NOTHING lol!  Such a darn masculine name!  Any ideas?

All I've come up with is Craiglena which just makes me laugh.  :)  I'm really bad at this.

  • Maybe your daughters will pass it on someday!
  • i think if you're using it for a middle name, craig is fine. i know a lot of women who have masculine middle names because they were family names, and they all love them.

  • Names that are kind of similar/some of the same letters:

Carrie, Ciara, Carys, Cora, Caprice, Colleen.

Since Craig means "rock" or "crag" you could find girl names with a similar meaning. Example: Sela or Rochelle.

  • You could use Ailsa, Ailsa Craig being an island in Scotland where I think both names derive from.

To be honest though, in this case I'd just use Craig as a middle name. On my phone and can't see your siggy, but I'd pair it with something ultra feminine. Madeleine Craig, Olivia Craig, Natalie Craig, etc.

  • Personally I would use it as my daughter's middle name. I think it is cute!

  • I would just use it as the MN with a very feminine FN.  I personally would prefer to have a masculine family name as my MN in place of the meaningless 80s/90s filler MN I have.

I agree with this - middle names are fair game, especially when they're family names.
