UTI again?

This is my second UTI since I have gotten pregnant!I have never had one since becoming pregnant. Is this common during pregnancy? Any frequent UTI sufferers have any advice to keep them away? Doc has me on amoxicillin (sp?).

Yup!! completely common and normal to get them more often in pregnancy. I too have had two UTI's both were in the first trimester. But i also got them frequently before i was pregnant too. you just need to drink as much water as you can. stay hydrated!! When you need to pee, DONT hold it, go right away. and then your typical pee after intercourse with SO. I will actually keep baby wipes in the bathroom so i can clean up after peeing as well. After that there isnt much else you can do. The cranberry pills are hit and miss and dont always help.. so you could try them but no garauntees. Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • I had two UTIs during my first trimester as well and amoxicillin worked wonders (I usually get sick from antibiotics, but I was fine on this, it just took a few more days to clear up because it was a 6-day dose for me).

The best advice I can give is to do what the previous poster said: pee the second you feel that you have to go. I know that's why I got both of mine: I woke up in the night, had to go, but I was so tired, I ended up falling back to sleep without getting out of bed and, surprise, UTI to follow. It's inconvenient, but now I get up however many times a night I need to. The other night, I got up about 3 times in 20 minutes as I was falling asleep because I kept feeling the urge! Also, be sure to stay hydrated, 8-10 servings of water a day. And to wipe front to back so no bacteria gets into your urethra.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the last one you get! Hope it clears up soon! And drink some cranberry juice, that may help as well!

Well, I do this practically every night! So that's probably why I'm getting them! I used to NEVER get up to use the bathroom--never had to. But now that i'm pregnant....don't think I'll ever get used to it! Thanks for the replies ladies. Hoping this is my last one!

  • I never had them until I was pregnant with DD.  And since then I have gotten several a year. UGH! Just make sure to get them taken care of ASAP and drink lots of water.  You absolutely do not want the infection to travel to your kidneys!!! The cranberry pills have always helped me, and the doc said they are safe to take while pregnant.  The times I have gotten infections is when I am not taking the cranberry pills regularly...you would think I would learn.

It's honestly such a pain, but I'd rather drag myself out of bed than get another UTI! Luckily I'm sleepy enough that I'm able to fall right back to sleep, but it still stinks!
