Hi,
I had a section with my first due to a failed induction. I went in at 41+2 for cervidil, started pitocin at 41+3 and had baby at 41+4 after never dilating.
Talked to OB this morning at my 31 week appointment. She said they would let me VBAC but under certain conditions: they wouldn't let me go past 40 weeks, they won't aid me in any way (no pitocin), I must have an epidural (don't have to use it just need it in case of emergency section).
I would love to try for a VBAC but I am discouraged. My doctor also mentioned that since I never went into labor with #1 I probably wont go into labor this time.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Re: just talked to ob...wont let go past 40weeks...wwyd
What was the reason for your induction the first time around? Maybe you just take longer to make babies. I have an aunt who never went into labor until 42 weeks or more with 5 of her 6 children. With her last she went into labor around 40 1/2 weeks.
If I was in your position, which I very well could be in the end of March, I would stay home until I go into labor, labor at home as long as possible and attempt to show up at the hospital pretty much pushing, unless there is some really good reason to induce at 40 weeks. Your doctor can't make you have surgery no matter how much they might want you to have it.
I have a supportive husband and OB but I'm still having to fight for my VBAC.
I agree with pp, maybe find a more supportive caregiver? If there's no one (only one OB in my entire giant city and urban area does vbacs!!), then you could just always refuse to have a csection at 40 weeks. They can't make you. Maybe your body will surprise you this time though and you'll go into labor!

This. Her conditions aren't very vbac friendly at all.

I agree with this. I went over 41 weeks with both my babies. My CNM said that some women just cook babies longer. I wasn't "late", that is just the time it takes in my body. Your doctor shouldn't force the baby out early if there is no medical reason to do so.
