June 2011 Moms

Not a fan of this kids new sleep schedule!!

Ty's been taking one nap a day this week, which is normally fine, however only 1 hour naps!  One day it was 1.5 hours.  The thing is, he's SOOOO exhausted that he pretty much passes out in his bath.  Therefore, he falls asleep earlier and wakes up earlier.  I swear, the kid will not sleep longer than 10.5 hours at a time.  And this week it's been 10 hours, pretty much to the minute.  Today he woke up at 5:45.  I finally gave up fighting him sleeping (I was trying to keep him up until 8:15) and he zonked out at 7:50 last night.

No real point to this post - momma's just tired today!  Oh, and it didn't help that this was one morning that would have been perfect to get a few extra minutes of lounging in bed time.  Rainy, windows cracked a bit so a bit of a cool breeze in the room.  LOVE that weather!

  • I feel ya, I can never get Cole to sleep later. He was up around 5:30 yesterday. Maybe they are plotting against us together!

  • 545 on the nose this morning. I was devistated but why, i don't know b/c she freaking does it every.single.day. One day last week she did 6:05 and i was feeling lucky! She to is a 10.5 hr sleeper. Compared to my DS when he was this age (wasn't yet STTN!), i should be happy but clearly i could use more sleep!

The naps do get better. DD did the one hour nap thing when she moved to 1 nap a day and did the passing out thing as well. We moved up her bedtime by 15-30 min until she was into a better nap length and then moved it back to more normal time (730 usually). If she goes to bed later, she wakes earlier and is a crab.

  • My DD is on almost that same schedule for the past few days. She was doing really well on the one nap a day thing until about a week ago. Her nap went from being 2-3 hours in length to 1-1.5 hours in length. She does GREAT if the nap lasts at least 2 hours. I guess 2 hours is her magic nap number.

She also only sleeps for about 10.5 hours at night..... from around 8 pm until around 6:30 am. She's been doing that for months. We decided to try putting her down a little earlier and last night she was asleep by 7:45 pm. We're going to aim for around 7:30 pm and see if that extra half hour helps her out at all because she's been cranky in the mornings when she wakes up lately, especially with her shortened naps.

Based on the recent poll on here about sleep, most babies on here are sleeping 11-12 hours at night and it made me wonder if DD would be less cranky during the day if I tried moving her bedtime back by a hair.

We might have the same LO!  He's been good switching to 1 nap, and sometimes still does 2, but if he doesn't get a least 2 hours for that 1 nap day then it's a sh&t show the next morning.  I begged MIL to try to get him to take 2 naps today.  If he can't he won't, and that's fine, but I sure hope he does!

It doesn't matter what time he goes to bed at night, he still wakes up at 10.5 hours or 6:30, which ever comes first.

  • My DD has been on this same schedule since switching to one nap too.  I read that it is very common!  Good news though- it's been about 3 weeks since the transition, and her sleep has gotten better- her one nap is longer (~2 hours) and she went from waking up at 5:45am to 6:45am.  Yay!  We had started putting her to bed about 30-45 minutes earlier than normal so she could make up the sleep she wasn't getting during her crappy 1 hour nap, and that seemed to help a little.  Now she's back to her normal bedtime.  I think they get overtired with the transition to one nap and then all their sleep gets bad.  I hope in a week or two it will be better for you too!
