I posted the other day about being at the end of my rope because J is in his 4 month wakeful (can someone buy my kid a calendar?!)
We figured that we needed him to learn to put himself back to sleep and since he nurses to sleep and refuses a pacifier we didn't know what to do. So last Thursday we started using Elizabeth Pantley's No-Cry Sleep Solution.
Thursday night it took 80 minutes of pulling him off the boob, giving it back until he would settle to drowsy, lather, rinse, repeat. Exactly one week later, 10 minutes of pulling him off the boob with only whines of protest before I put him in the crib drowsy and he looked at me and smiled then turned his head and closed his eyes to sleep.
So if anyone is or plans to try the NCSS, don't lose hope. It takes time in the beginning but it is so worth it. I can't believe how quickly J picked it up.
Re: No-Cry Sleep Solution Success!!
This is how it is for us too.
Us three. She'll look up at me and smile like 'Aww, you really thought that was gonna work? That's adorable. Now gimme that boob!!'
If I didn't nurse him to sleep and then hold him until he was in a deep sleep his eyes would snap open the minute I put him down and he would cry. Honestly. I was holding him until his limbs were limp and placing him down so gently. Now I stand up right away and put him down drowsy. I never thought this would work for us.
Her book says that in her test families by day 10 42% had success. By day 20 it was 53%. By day 60 it was 92%.
Right?! My nipples were on FIRE. I had switch sides 40 minutes in. I usually pump after he goes to bed and it did not happen that night. lol. And that's why I thought this would never work for him or, at the very least, it would take him 60 days. I'm so glad I stuck it out.
Just one waking. But he's only in the 10th percentile so I think he really needs the feed. Goes back to sleep easily.
