Hey girls..just wondering for those that chose to do the cord banking, what company did you go with. Trying to decide between viacord and cryocell.

I just ordered cryocell again. I will have used them for all three kids. They have been a round the longest. I think it's important to have. If you want a ever referral, it gives $400 off.

We are using cbr. Via cord was our 2nd option, we just liked the sales rep at cbr better.

We used CBR with the first two girls and plan to again with the 3rd.

People can say all they want about the waste of money it is. I hope to helll it IS a waste of money and I never ever need it. But I will be so thankful if I ever DO need it and I was able to bank it.

The OP didn't ask if she should or shouldn't, she asked about two companies she was considering.

The problem is that even if your kid comes down with something where cord blood would be useful, the cord blood you banked more than likely will not be able to be used. It just seems scammy to me. Sorry, feeding off of poor pregnant ladies for hundreds of thousands of dollars for something that more than likely is pointless just seems cruel. If I was to do it, I would donate.

There is a god chance it could help a sibling which is why we banked all three kids. Also, could help the parent. I hope we never use it but would never skip any insurance policy that COULD help my child. Worth every penny to hopefully never need it.

I brushed it off as well with my first two boys, but now that we are pregnant with our 3rd and last, we are seriously considering it. I'm not sure how we can afford it (my 1st google attempt was $900-$2100 initial cost) However, research is coming out about stem cells and hearing loss. My oldest wears hearing aids and if there is a possibility that his brother's stem cells can help his hearing, I will pay it. We just paid $3600 for hearing aids, and $2800 for an FM system, so $900 in comparison is worth it for us. It is a new study, and I haven't consulted with a cord bank, or his Otoloryngologist who is also in the research field. However, I am due in 9 weeks so we may take the risk. It can likely be used for parents or siblings for certain diseases as well. You can also donate yours for free, I believe, to help others. I would love to hear positive experiences from others' or cost....

It looks like you want a private bank, but in case you are also looking at donation-we are using ITxM Clinical Services-they are the donation bank that works with Northwestern, where we will deliver.

All of this except we are using Viacord again. We can afford it and it seems OP can, too, so for PP to tell her to put it into a college fund is not helpful, at all. I also hope with every fiber or my being that it IS the biggest sum of money I ever spend on something that will go unused.

Also - to the PP to which it seems "scammy" - you do not know her or her family's medical history. Keep that in mind.

All of this. We are using viacord again. There are several diseases that run in DH's family that treatments are in the works for (heart condition, alzheimers) that we hope we will not need but it is nice knowing that we may have this as a treatment option should DH need it.

Exactly this! We used CBR and will again next month. I also hope I never need it and am wasting my money!!!

Thanks girls for your input. I hope i never have to use it, but if the time comes, I will be so thankful. I have wasted money in my lifetime for many things that i regretted, but never for something that has the chance of being the best decision I ever made. I have done a lot of research and it has been proven to help with many diseases and there are even more n the works for the future. Viacord is a more $, but the sales rep explained that the way they process the cells improves their viability. It is very scientific, and a little confusing, to me.
