Trader Joe's?

So I've been holed up in the house for 3 days and am stir crazy. Trader Joe's just opened up about 30 minutes from my house and my mom is taking me tomorrow. I have been a few times but it was 5 years ago when my sister still lived in California. What should I get? I already have cookie butter on my list!

Oh and obviously I am feeling better, hence why I want to get out for a bit :)

  • They have fantastic Chinese potstickers. Try the pork ones! They are so good.

  • A Trader Joes justed opened up near me this week too!

My favorite purchases are the pineapple salsa and edamame peas (frozen, salted).

  • I really have no idea what Trader Joe's is. I just googled it and found that there are two within 30 minutes or so from me. Hmm.

We have a Trader Jacks flea market near us!! Lol

They also have these popped potato chips that are super yummy and supposedly better for you than regular chips. They are a great snack, but addicting, which I guess then defeats the purpose. :)

They also have those applesauce packs for babies that are really reasonably priced. They have apple, apple banana, and apple carrot.

Oh! And some TJs (but not all) have this mango tangerine sorbet (double rainbow brand). I'm lactose intolerant and it nearly makes up for not being able to have ice cream.

  • What shouldn't you try? Agreed on the Popped chips (get BBQ) and peanut butter cups; they also have amazing chocolate covered orange sticks and toffee clusters. Their fat free bean dip is incomprable, and I love their corn salsa. But the fun thing about TJ's is experimenting-- just go up and down the aisles and grab what looks interesting. The prices are great, so you can do that without overspending much. They have great easy meals in their frozen section. As a vegetarian, I find lots of fun stuff--- fake meat, soy chorizo, tempeh, wonderful baked tofu that FYI is great for baby finger food. A lot of what they have is similar to what they have at regular stores but cheaper for the quality-- frozen fruit, whole grain frozen waffles for baby, nice Brie or gost cheese, etc. My kitty, before he passed, loved the double wide scratchers. I'm a total shampoo snob, but I'll use on occasion the $3 nourish conditioner.  But what they're really known for (depending on your state laws-- sorry NY & PA) is their wine-- stuff that's not half bad at under $5, and stuff that's really good for a more than that but still a good value.  Their "2 buck chuck" (Charles Shaw wine) reintroduced the concept of weekday wine, but these days they have a more extensive selection.

It makes me so sad that not everyone has a trader joe's nearby... I complain about our closest one being a 10 minute drive (there really should be one closer-- there are at least five Whole Foods that are closer than the nearest TJ's).

  • Honey goat cheese, edamame hummus not really hummus, just mashed edamame, and jalapeno hummus.... Yum!

  • Thanks for all the recommendations! I can't wait to go today!
  • What I wouldn't give for a Trader Joes within driving distance. Louisiana is fresh out of them. No costcos around here either.

We got Smoked Salt last time. It's this grey salt in the spice aisle. It has a subtle flavor and is so good.

Grilling chicken thighs with just this salt and pepper is so good. (its good on everything though)

    Plus it's cheap, like 1.99 I think.
