"It's staring at me"

This is a conversation I just had with one of my special education high schoolers:

J: (After staring me down for a couple minutes) "What are you hiding under your shirt?"

Me: Nothing. That's just my belly.

J: "What's in that?"

Me:"There's a baby in there."

J: "What kind of a baby?"

Me: "A little one. We don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl."

J: (Pauses, looking at the baby bump) "Well, it's staring at me." (walks away)

I laughed so hard after she was gone! I'm sorry my baby bump is staring at you

Ha! I work with some quirky special education students in high school also, and I am sure they will have plenty of interesting comments for me once I out myself to them.

I worked in behavioral health when I was pregnant with my first. One of the girls asked me what I was having. I told her that I was pretty sure it was a baby but it might turn out to be a giraffe. She gave me a puzzled look and walked away. THe staff reported that she thought I was serious and started telling the other kids that I was having a giraffe.

I love it! I am a pediatric nurse and take care of lots of special needs kids. I really have a place in my heart for those kids. They are so literal and serious at times. Thanks for the laugh
