Trying to Get Pregnant

Help- strange Dr. visit (HPT photo in post)

Hey all-

I had my annual pap scheduled for today. Did the normal routine, she felt everything, blah blah blah. She then was spending some extra time on my stomach, and then ordered an ultrasound and blood test for the morning. She didn't say much else...but I also didn't ask. My goal at paps is to GTFO of there.

Has this ever happened to anyone? I'm kind of freaked out.

(I am 10 DPO, so I think it would be too early for her to feel anything from just touching my stomach, no?)

I peed on a stick when I got home and this is what I saw...so nothing as far as I can tell.

  • P.S. I have uterine fibroids- I guess that's why I'm freaked out. Any insight is greatly appreciated! I wish I would have asked questions.

I'm curious why a doctor would order that stuff for the next day without saying much. I'm wondering if it's a signal that there's something wrong and she wants to make sure.

I guess I'm hoping someone here works in health care and can help me?

  • I would assume she felt or suspected something to do with your fibroid. I wouldn't stress or worry; my understanding is that stress can make fibroids worse.

I have this ridiculous fantasy that when I go for my annual in 2 weeks they'll tell me, guess what? You're pregnant! But I know how unlikely that is. I might be 10 DPO then, and it's extraordinarily unlikely that a dr would be able to tell from my normal exam.

Good luck-I hope all is well when you get your results.

No idea about your doc OP, she wouldn't be feeling for a baby obviously. Probably just checking for fibroid stuff given your history.

I said I wish I would have asked- I hate Paps and I was uncomfortable. I get that I should have asked. I'm not an idiot. But thanks for the "novel idea".

What I want to hear is what I asked in my post- if anyone has any insight why a doctor would order such things. Maybe it has happened to someone else on the board. Maybe there is someone with personal experience...and if so, THOSE are the people who should be contributing to the post, as that was the original inquiry.

This. You take off your clothes and let the woman poke around your business, but are uncomfortable talking to her?

Take charge of your own health care. You're going to want to practice so you can do this effectively when you are pregnant and have another child.

  • I don't have any experience with you medically concerns but I really encourage you to take more ownership with your health.

I know it can be really scary but the truth is if you're trying to get pregnant it's essential that you have an open relationship with your doctor.

If that's not something that you're comfortable with you really need to address that situation.

Nobody really likes pap smears I'm sure it's also not the favorite part of your doctor's day either.

Try to prepare a list of questions so

that as all you can think about is GTFU you still make sure you get the info you need.
    Good luck.

Not this. At 10dpo its highly unlikely an ultrasound would pick up a pregnancy, betas just aren't high enough at the stage, they need to be minimum 1000 to see anything, and at that point we wouldn't be sitting here debating over OP's nonexistent line.
More likely she suspects something nonpregnancy related like fibroids but wanted to Rule Out a pregnancy to ensure that wasn't what she was feeling.

Just kidding, that was me when I was 13 and got over it after I visited the gyno regularly.

Op, I agree with the rest of the people that said you need to ask questions...at your doctor's office...not on the interwebz.

  • I'm with everyone else- I can't imagine not asking why these things were being ordered.  Personally, I would call your doctor and ask before I had these things done. These things cost time and money. Inform yourself before you go further.

As for the pee stick- if you really didn't see anything, you would not have posted it. Let's be honest, you think you are pregnant and think the doctor may think that too.

Pee on a  pinky-dye test in the morning, and if it's positive, post your BFP on first tri. GL.

Fear shouldn't deter you from getting the information you need especially when it comes to your health. Why not just call the dr. up and ask why more tests are being run that you forgot to ask before.

  • You need to ask your doctor, OP.

Why include the negative/evap pee stick?

Your post sounds like you are asking us to tell you the reason your doctor was feeling on your stomach and ordering an ultrasound is because you must be pregnant. However, baby is tiny tiny at that stage and not even above the public bone. There is no way a doctor could have palpitated your abdomen to feel a baby at 10DPO.

It could be fibroids, cysts or an abnormal growth that your doctor felt. Could be swelling or a hard lump and they want the ultrasound to figure out what it is. With a negative pregnancy test and no questions to your doctor, I want you think carefully on this, how in the world are we supposed to know what is in the doctor's mind when he or she is examining you? Realistically you are asking us to guess what in the world your doctor wanted to order tests for. We can't possibly know.

My experience (since you asked and all) is that when the doctor examining me orders bloodwork and an ultrasound when I don't have a positive pregnancy test then I ask them what could be going on. They usually shrug and say that they have to run more tests to know. That is my experience.

Now, stop acting like a child and realize that you are asking us a truly ridiculous question that it would be impossible for us to answer accurately.
