Do you know what this could be?

My LO will be 3.5 months on Saturday. In the last few days, he has been getting up in the middle of the night in discomfort. I nurse him but, it appears that isn't what he wants. He eventually falls back asleep, but has been doing it only for that last few days. He will usually try to stick his fingers in his mouth but still be very uncomfortable. It does not appear to be gas etc. What could this be? Is anyone experiencing this or has experienced this?

    My little man has been doing this too. He's not hungry or gassy. I think he just wants to suck so I give him the pacifier. Also I think he may want reassurance that I am nearby. So I give him the pacifier and place my hand on his chest to comfort him. Last night he even held my finger at one point and fell asleep.

    I asked the pedi on Monday about how to get him to STTN. He said try to soothe him without picking him up so that's what I'm doing.

    I think it may be teething...LO is drooling a lot and coughing..I just checked the what to expect website and it sounds very much like teething... :(

    Teething... DS does this occasionally. It's always accompanied by drool.

    Ditto on the teething. Try rubbing a little teeting gel on his gums and see if that helps.

    Aw your poor little guy.

    My DS is drooling a lot too but the pedi says he's not teething yet.

    My LO seems to be teething too.  He does the same things as your LO.  My DH's relatives had babies with teeth at 3 months.  It could be.  I give him a pacifier and it seems to help him a little.

    Ack! I was just looking up those exact things online...but he's only just now 3 months.  wouldn't that be early for teething?

    Could be 4 month wakeful.  DD started this around 3.5 and it was over by 4.  She reverted back to waking every few hours ugh it was tiring.  Once I moved her into her crib it stooped, not sure if the two went together or not.  I think our cats walking by were waking her up since at around 4 months they become much more aware of their surroundings. .

    I think you are right!!! I never even thought about the 4 month wakeful period. This is it.
