Pregnant after 35

head on the desk

We got our BFP on Monday - I'm a little over 4 weeks but WOW am I exhausted and finding it really hard to focus.  When I'm not in a meeting I'm finding it hard to not zone out and I need to stop!  I have sh*t to do!  Any tips or is it totally hopeless?  I guess I should just shut up since at least I don't have M/S.....yet.

For the record I zoned about 7 times trying to write this post.

Me: 37 DH: 37 TTC since Jan 2012. RE consult and initial testing done in Aug 2012: SA fine, AMH 1.1 & HSG clear - on way to IUI but got BFP on 9/10/2012. m/c 10/3/2012 at 6w5d. BFP next cycle which was a c/p. IUI #1: Clomid 100mg 12/6= BFN. IUI#2 (unmedicated) Jan 2013 = BFN. Hysteroscopy 1/25/13. IUI#3 Clomid 100mg 2/23 = BFN IUI# 4: BFN. IVF #1 April 2013, BFP!  EDD 1/12/14 with Boy!

Re: head on the desk

  • Congratulations! Zoning out is totally normal--I couldn't think about much of anything else for the first week or so after my BFP. It does get (somewhat) better...

  • I'm sorry - I could only focus when I absolutely had to. I would bring my laptop to bed and that helped when I had to get work done. But when I wasn't working, I was eating or sleeping. It's really hard, but the second trimester gets easier. I feel you!

  • Haha, I'm in the 3rd tri re-zoning period. I've found with too much zoning, getting up to take a walk seems to help. And trying to set small goals of "I will do this, then take a walk" and those little moments of extra effort help.

Me too!  When I can focus, I want to read about how I need to stop eating and drinking everything I love and the symptoms I will be getting at my 23.5 week :) I've already taken 45 books out of the library and installed 14 apps.

Thanks ladies - I think I'll try getting up and walking around (which isn't tough since I'm peeing every 5 minutes) and writing lists.

It's an exciting problem to have!

  • I promise it gets better.  I had really bad MS and could not do much but puke and sleep.  Then around 14 weeks it all started getting better.  I get compliments on my cute little bump and feel great.  The only problem is that I have so much energy that my coworkers have trouble keeping up.  They miss my first tri.

  • Congrats!

For me, there was little I could do to combat the fatigue.  I actually had to use my office floor as a bed a few times.  It was sad!  It does get better though...but I would say you have a LONG ways to go.  Hang in there:)

  • I'm a little over 4 weeks from going on leave and I can't focus to save my life...on anything.  They weren't kidding when they said 1st and 3rd trimesters had similar challenges.  If I could sit and stare at my cube wall ALL day, I'd be so happy.  I'm doing my best to hang in, but luckily my team is made up of a lot of moms, and I am being given a little slack.  Paradise

I had to go out to my car and power nap all the time during my first trimester.
