April 2012 Moms

When baby wakes from nap do you leave them until they cry?

I know this has been discussed before.

Right now DD is kicking around and wide awake but hasn't made a peep yet. Part of me thinks that if I have an audio only monitor I'd never know this was happening and I'd just think she was still asleep.

The other half of me feels bad that she's spending her awake time laying in a dark room.

What to do?

  • I leave DS alone.  I feel like it's good for him to learn to play on his own and entertain himself.

  • Yup? Most of the time he goes back to sleep after a while. I do the same in the mornings too. As long as he's happy, I don't think it's an issue. It just happened right now. He was up for 15 minutes and is snoozing away again.

  • It's okay for her to play by herself (even if it's only with her feet). She'll call when she needs you. :)
  • Usually for naps L sleeps on me so she isn't normally in another room. And since she is in DC now I let her for extra snuggle time. But, when she gets up in the morning I don't go right in. This morning she got up at 6:20. I waited until 7am to get her. She was in the dark just kicking and talking, and sometimes I think she would doze off. Since she was talking I knew she was up but if she's happy, I think it's ok to leave her for a bit.

  • yes, I leave her. Because she might go back to sleep.

Exception is if I get home from work and she is napping, I usually am so excited to see her I'll go up as soon as she makes a peep.

  • I leave them. Sometimes they go back to sleep. I go get them when they fuss/yell/cry.

  • I let him be, until he cries, or unless i miss him then i pick him up to play.

  • At nap time I leave him in his crib for a minium of 1 hour, but I never leave him if he cries. If he wakes but just talks etc after an hour I leave him to play for 15 mins. If he cried I would go to him right away.

  • I would say leave the baby where the baby is happy.  This is a lesson I have learned again and again.  I have been horrible with this baby and hold her every time she makes a peep (she is my later in life suprise).  My husband keeps telling me I am insane and apparently its true because if you take them away from where they are happy they frequently morph into a big ole baby of unhappiness.

  • I leave X alone until he starts whimpering/crying.  He is normally content just chilling in his crib talking to his feet for a while after waking up.
