Starting solids-tips?

We're going to introduce solids (or try to) this weekend for a variety of reasons. Any tips from those who've done it?

What did you start with?  We're thinking rice cereal, but we're very open.

Any special spoons?

Any tips on having success?

Thanks!

  • If you do start with cereal, disregard the box's suggestion on making it super runny.  I think they say like 3 TBSP of milk to 1 TBSP of cereal and that is way to runny.

As far as spoons go we used the gerber spoons with the rubber tip.  Also, the nuby spoons worked fine as well.

    Good luck!

  • I did rice cereal for a few weeks, I also just put a teaspoon of rice in a bowl and then mixed it with formula until it was a consisency that I liked for her.  When we started veggie I did squash then sweet potatoes.  Alot of the people on this board start with green, but my pedi said to start with orange veggies.  I also use the rubber tipped spoon as well.  Good luck, it is alot of fun to actually feed them! :)
