Hi Ladies!
I can't make it to one of my college BFF's baby showers and I want to mail something off before the baby is born. She is registered but at a local boutique that I don't have in my state. I am TTC # 1 and pretty clueless about baby stuff and just want to buy her something special. The top item on my list is this gift set and I just want some confirmation before I get it. Do you think she will like it/is it a good baby gift? I know she already has lots of clothes and the nursery is ready etc.
Thanks. ![]()
Re: Would you like this baby gift?
It's cute but she might get a lot of blankets and things like this if she's registerd at a small boutique place.
Maybe you could send her some books or something like that? Books are always a great go-to gift when the registry isn't great.
This. I'm a FTM but people always say they love Sophie the giraffe , don't know why, but it's what they say.
as for the book thing, that would depend on your friend. Personally a book would be of no use to me and just take up more space on an already crowded book shelf. I wouldn't even use it for MONTHS after baby is born. But some people love those, so it depends on her.
although for that price you might be able to find something more useful to her. Does she have a rock n' play sleeper? Most moms I know love those and you can find them for about the same price
My DD loved her Sophie BUT that price is shocking. Around here (Canada) you can get a Sophie for around $21... so you are basically paying $30 for a blanket. Personally we got close to 30 baby blankets and I can promise you that most of them have never been used and DD is close to 1 year old now. It's up to you but you could get better bang for your buck by purchasing her a Sophie and something else at Babies r us (somewhere where you can get both) and have it sent to her, I know they have really great bath stuff there for babies.
Another thing I saw once on baby steals that I thought was kind of neat was this 6 in 1 blanket, it was like a regular blanket, nursing cover, highchair cover, shopping cart cover, cover for an infant carrier and stroller lap blanket all in one... it seemed pretty neat and for the shopping cart aspect alone I thought it was pretty cool. I think it's like $40 (though I plan to try making my own now). https://www.babeecovee.com/
My son loves his Sophie and it has helped since he now chews on everything since his paci is gone. As long as you know that it may be months before their LO uses it, I don't see a problem. My son didn't really use his until he started teething (around 6 months).
I know it may sound bizarre.... but one thing I wish I had is a toy box (not sure if she has one in her nursery or not). LO has a crapload of toys but we have yet to find a good toybox to put them in. Not sure what your budget is, but you could even do a small one and then put some baby items (wipes, diapers, teethers, small toys, etc) in it. GL!
The gift set does look like really nice, but I second the rock n' play sleeper. It's right around the same price on Amazon, and it's been a lifesaver for us. Our baby wouldn't sleep flat in a pack n play or crib. The rock n' play is the only thing he'll sleep in, and I'd never heard of it until someone gave it to me as a hand me down. It'll get way more use sooner than that gift set.

I think it's a very cute set, but ditto PPs about new moms receiving more blankets than they know what to do with. Sofie seems to be very popular with a lot of kids- if you like the idea of giving a Sofie teether, I'd pick one up at Target or BRU and make a gift basket with expendable items or a diaper cake and use it as the topper.
Some ideas of things for a basket that you always need: diapers, wipes, diaper cream, baby shampoo and bath wash, burp cloths, pacifiers.
