Elimination Diet - Travel Friendly Food Ideas?

I've eliminated wheat, milk, soy, eggs, nuts, and citrus from my diet. We are going to be on a 9-hour flight this week, they will probably serve dinner and breakfast. I've asked for a vegan meal, but there's no meal option that will guarantee that all of the foods I've eliminated won't be used.

Any suggestions for food I can take with me, in case I can't eat what is served on board? I have some Enjoy Life snack bars, but I feel like I will need something heartier, as I'm still BF'ing and my calorie requirements are still pretty high.

Edit: I found a gluten-free option in the meal options for my airline, it was buried in another part of the site. So I'm going with that instead of vegan. Too bad I can't choose both.

  • Honestly that sounds really hard!  Most likely anything they serve will have one of those... I am going to our fancy grocery store and a health food store to find some kind of protein or cereal bar for our road trip this weekend, I remember seeing one by enjoy life.  If I find anything I will let you know.

  • Thanks ... DH says that if there is anything in the regular meal that I can eat, he will let me have it. So we're planning to mix-and-match what we can.

I found a quinoa and black bean recipe online last night, I think we are going to make it and bring it along as a backup, at least that way I will have a good amount of protein that should survive at room temperature for a few hours.

I can't remember if it's okay to bring a blue ice pack through security to keep my food chilled, or if they recommend getting ice from a restaurant on the other side of security. Anyone have recent experience with this?

  • Just found the enjoy life bars and honestly they aren't great tasting but will do in a pinch.

  • Yeah, I like the Enjoy Life bars, but they are a snack, not a meal.
  • That is tough one, cause I bet you wont be able to eat much of the airline meals. I like the enjoy life beach bash trail mix, which is basically seeds and dried fruit. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting and it is a good bit of protein and around 700 calories. Not a meal, but it should help.
