Hello All! Let me introduce myself....

Hey all, I'm a newbie. If you couldn't tell already hehe. My fiancee and I are venturing into the TTC world this month and while she is really nervous I can't be more excited!!

So we have found a friend that is more willing to donate he has been tested in all areas and has received a clean bill of health. We would really like to do this at home with a home insemination kit but I'm just not really sure where to get it? I have done some research and I can only find ones that come with it all, the OPK's, the pregnancy tests, thermometer,  and so on but I already have all that. Do any of you know where or how I can get a kit with out all the extra's?? Any and all help is welcome! And thanks in advance!

Re: Hello All! Let me introduce myself....

  • We used a container we could sterilize (for our donor) and a syringe we got from CVS. That worked for us. Smile

Other folks have done at-home inseminations with fancier equipment. mypalbabs, can you chime in?

  • Like PP, I asked my primary care physician for sterile cups (the ones you pee in for physicals, etc) and got medical syringes from the pharmacy at Walgreens.

I didn't even know kits existed!!  Sounds cool, but if you don't find what you're looking for, know that it can work without one:)

  • Well I don't think you need all that haha. My wife and I used an instead softcup and opks. Pregnant on the first try with the softcups on the first day of a positive OPK and the day after, don't stress yourself if you don't have too!

  • We got a "kit" from our alternative insemination clinic, but it was just sterile specimen cups and 3 cc oral syringes.  Ask for the syringes at the pharmacy counter - they usually give them to you for free. I'd see if they have a 3cc and a 5cc.  And honestly, you don't even really need sterile specimen cups - any clean, dry container will do.  But we like the specimen cups and when we needed more we ordered them from Amazon.

Like Bree mentioned, an Instead softcup is another option instead of the syringe.

  • What method are you planning to use for insemination?  That will determine exactly what supplies you need.

As you can see from the responses above, it sounds like each of us has utilized a different method.

We got our "kit" from our midwife, who taught use how to do at home ICI (insemination directly into the cervix).

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.

  • Welcome!

When we tried at home we just used a sterile dry container (make sure it's completely dry as water or other liquids can damage/kill sperm and motility).  For the syringe we were unable to get them from our pharmacist (stupid Texas) so we just bought the ones made for giving kids medicine (3pk for like $4).

Another option is consulting your primary care physician or your gynecologist.

If you are trying to insert any further than to the cervix (not in the cervix) then I would consult a dr or mid wife as that can be trickier and easier to cause infection if not done correctly.  I also second the soft cups as that will keep it tucked closed to the cervix!

    Good luck!

  • We had a sterile cup from the Dr's office and a medicine syringe. Worked for us, we are almost 11 weeks!

    Good Luck!
