Ok so since I posted I have been doing a lot of research and I think I have called my doctors office to ask questions at least 20 times today. I also spoke with the L&D Director at my hospital. Here is some more information I have received about why the doctor feels its necessary to induce next week.
1. Because of my history of pre-term labor with this pregnancy he is worried that I would not make it to the hospital in time for delivery if my water was to break or I would go into labor. He believes I would dilate and progress too quickly. Hospital is about 45min away.
2. He is going off the notes of my previous doctor that I dropped at 35 weeks, I have asked him what those notes say that has him concerned. He said her notes show that results from NST's show that when I was having contractions babies heart beat would drop significantly and this is cause for concern. He does not want me to go into labor and have the baby in distress. He would rather induce and keep an eye on baby so she does not get into any trouble. My previous doctor NEVER told me that there was a problem with babies heart beat with ANY of my NST's this was news to me to me today disturbing news.
3. He did tell me that it is 100% my decision to have the induction or not, he feels that this would be best in his opinion because of what he has seen on previous NST's and my dilation. He said he would never do anything to put me or baby in any harm.
4. The L&D Director at the hospital said that they would never ever do an induction before 39 weeks unless the doctor can show medical cause for the induction. She already had the notes on my case and said that there is reason with the babies heart distress (again I did not know about this) when I have contractions to show such cause. She also advised me to go through with the induction and believes it would be a safer delivery for me and baby.
5. The L&D Director also told me that it is NOT unheard of that a women could get infections being dilated. I told her NO ONE has heard of such a thing and she says she sees it everyday. She said yes if your water has not broken then baby is protected however you water has to break in order to deliver and if mom has some kind of infection this can be transferred to the baby during delivery. This is just information I wanted to pass along because this was a response I got a lot in my previous post and thought this was very interesting because I had never heard of getting infections when dilated.
Now I have not made up my mind I literally have a pad of paper beside me with a pro and con list and DH is making his own as well. I am also not running away from the flame or the judgement I am getting I understand it and when I joined the Sept 12 ladies I am sure some of you remember I said I would always wear my big girl panties and take the reactions to posts I make. I just want me and baby to be ok and I want a safe delivery.
Re: UPDATE on being induced next week...kind of long
Yes I can't believe she never told me about that and DH went back through all the papers she has given us with notes on them and everything and there is NOTHING about the decreased heart beat. They always came in tore off the paper took it to show her then came back and took me off the monitor and let me go NEVER told me anything. Just another reason I am glad I am no longer with her.
Seems to totally justify you changing docs! That's crazy.
It's your body, your baby and your relationship with your doc. You will do what's best. Good luck!
(The up side, since you're well progressed, the induction should theoretically be smooth!)
I see where it seems like that I do, I guess I look at it that this is my doctor and if he feels this is whats best then I should listen to him and do what he instructs. I want to believe that he has mine and babies best interest in thought. I was believing what he told me at the time and not questioning it until I did my own research when I got home today. When I was reading the responses I had more and more questions from things you ladies were saying GOOD questions and that's why I have called a million times today to get more info.
I'm very glad he had good answers for you, but angry that your old OB failed to tell you these things! That's pretty important stuff! Thank goodness you switched drs otherwise who knows what would happen.
Heres hoping for a safe delivery no matter what you choose. Like PP said, its your body and your baby and you will do what is right for you.
No, I don't think anyone's really flaming you for this one! It seems like you're really doing your work to figure out what's best. As some people said in your previous post, it seemed like there was missing info and clearly those NST results are a big part of that! Stupid first doctor. She really sounds awful!
GL making your decision--and kuddos to you for trying to make as informed a decision as possible!
