Hi ladies. I haven't bumped in a while since my net was messed up. I hope I didn't miss much. My EDD came and went on Saturday, and now I'm facing down a couple of my biggest fears: chemical induction and cesearan. I have a bishop score of only 6 since my cervix is still mostly posterior and I'm only dilated 1-2 cm. I am 70% effaced, and Baby Boy is fully engaged and OA. Do you ladies have any ideas as to how to get him out NOW. I'm not afraid of labor and delivery, I'm afraid of all the interventions and complications that can arise from them. TIA.

Re: Past-due, looking at induction. HELP!
Looking at WHO reports, I'd see if your doctor could use misoprostal for induction if it comes to that (it is not associated with negative maternal or fetal outcomes nor is it associated with increased c-sections.)
Otherwise, I can't tell you anything you can't google. Walking, bouncing, swimming, dancing, sex, spicy food, red raspberry leaf tea, evening primrose oil, etc.
I completely understand your concern - I have a history of life-threatening vaccine/medication reactions (as do several family members - it's genetic), so I am terrified of exposing my son to my body on drugs.
Another perspective- if you find you are seriously looking at induction, you are quite favorable for it. So, worst case, you're induced, it does not mean that you will have a c-section.
I was induced with my first (medical reasons- gd and hbp) and wasn't favorable at all (maybe a fingertip dilated and barely softened). Although it took two days, I was ultimately able to deliver vaginally. I did end up with an epidural and episiotomy, but again, it ultimately ended great.
I fully support natural birth- don't get me wrong. If I go on my own, I genuinely hope I'm able to make that happen this time. But I found myself terrified through the entire induction process primarily because I only ever heard horror stories about medical intervention. It is a backlash of overuse of medical intervention, but it is leaving women terrified and still feeling out of control. So the best advice is to trust, regardless of how it goes, trust that it will all be okay.
This, I also did fresh pineapple and spicy foods. My midwife said okay to try them all except for mineral oil (although some people swear by it), but side effects of that one don't sound too appealing anyway. Good luck!
Well, I'm in a similar position as you, but I'm less dilated, only slightly more effaced, and a couple days ahead.
Anyway, I know my MW was thinking inserting a foley bulb to get me dilated to 3 or 4 cm might be enough to make labor happen. Not sure if that would work for you but that might be a good first step to avoid or delay chemical induction.
Someone above mentioned misoprostol for induction. Of course, ask your doctor, but according to the FDA's website, it's not FDA approved for labor/induction. (Maybe it's just me, but that really freaks me out and I will be avoiding that at all costs: https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders/ucm111315.htm)
This!
There's no solid medical indication as of yet. We have our first NST and a US on Friday morning. Her main concern is what can happen after 42 weeks.
I was induced with both of my babies at 41 weeks and 41 weeks 1 day. Miso was used in both times and I was barely dilated and barely effaced. I see people talk about Misoprostal being not approved by the FDA for this but I trusted my doctors. I found an article on Wiki about it and the part labeled "Controversy" is pretty much what my doctors told me and why it was what they would use.
There is a risk with induction just like there is a risk with regular old labor. My doctors were concerned with the 41 week mark saying that there is increased risk of stillborn or other fetal distress. I can't remember. I just know that I wanted the girls out by 40 weeks.
Baby 1 = Induced 41 weeks had baby at 41w2d late pm (nearly 3 days!)
Baby 2 = Induced 41 weeks 1 day had baby 41w2w early am (only 22hours)
Talk to your doctors and decide from there, don't worry!
I am be doing a natural/med free birth unless medically necessary. We have talked things over with my doula and if we can't get anything going by 42 weeks then we will see if I am a candidate to use the Foley Bulb. It seems like a much more natural way to induce than anything else. I have heard that pitocin contractions hurt much worse and are beyond difficult wo other drugs, so we are avoid it unless medically necessary.
