Hi ladies. I haven't bumped in a while since my net was messed up. I
hope I didn't miss much. My EDD came and went on Saturday, and now I'm
facing down a couple of my biggest fears: chemical induction and
cesearan. I have a bishop score of only 6 since my cervix is still
mostly posterior and I'm only dilated 1-2 cm. I am 70% effaced, and Baby
Boy is fully engaged and OA. Do you ladies have any ideas as to how to
get him out NOW. I'm not afraid of labor and delivery, I'm afraid of all
the interventions and complications that can arise from them. TIA.

Re: Past-due, facing induction. HELP (xp from 3rd Tri)
Sex is the only thing that has ever worked for me, but even then it was probably only because baby was ready. I was 6 days overdue with #2 and had tried everything - walking miles, bouncing on a ball, eating "the foods", nipple stimulation, etc. The night I went into labor I had sex with DH and an hour later contractions started. I guess we'll never know if they would have started even without the sex.
I know some moms have good luck with castor oil. It doesn't sound pleasant, but if my options were induction or castor oil, I would probably try the oil. And lots of prayer!
Good luck!

bfp#4 3/19/2014 edd 12/1/2014 please let this be the one!
beta @ 5w0d = 12,026! u/s 4/22/14 @ 8w1d it's twins!
My second came after some pressure changes...we went up to 14,000-feet and then back to 5000-feet within one day and I think that helped.
Can you drive/hike up some mtn nearby? It isn't as easy most places, but CO was easy like that.
Also I second sex and membranes stripping...and lots of lunges/hiking/walking.
Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
...baby #3 is here...
Good luck! Just make sure to stay really hydrated if you do the castor oil. It's going to cause some diarrhea, but the good thing is you should be cleaned out and not have to worry about pooping during labor
Castor oil is what worked for me. I did 2 oz mixed with 2 oz or raspberry spritzer (chugged it) and wow...yeah major diarrhea. I stayed super hydrated with gatorade, ginger ale and water and I was fine. I took it at 11 AM and had prodromal type contractions from 3-7 and then started super quick active labor at 9 and baby was born at 2:45 am in GREAT condition.
I was 41 weeks and 6 days and had tried accupressure, accupuncture, sex, evening primrose oil, raspberry leaf tea, spicy food, walking, bouncing on the ball, nipple stimulation etc.
The morning I did the castor oil, I was 1 cm dilated and not effaced at all. So, that really means nothing!
As a previous poster suggested I would talk to your provider about waiting. My OBs rule is that as long as everything looks OK he lets me go until 42weeks2days. I admit that it was a pain going to his office twice a week after I hit 40 weeks but my DS arrived on his own at 41weeks6days.....hope you don't go that long! Best of luck!
PS: Dilation and effacement never meant anything for me. I was 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated before DS arrived yet I walked around at 4cm and 80% effaced with DD for almost two weeks..
I've tried (and continue to try) pineapple, spicy food, yoga ball, long walks, sex/orgasm, EPO, raspberry leaf tea, had my membranes swept yesterday, had accupressure work yesterday, and took some castor oil today. I won't accept being given Cytotec (misoprostol) because of the risks associated with it and the fact that it's not FDA approved for use in pregnancy/labor. If I'm induced, the plan is to ripen my cervix further with Cervadil, and then (if necessary) use either the Foley or Pitocin. My MW seems to think the Cervadil will be enough to put me into labor though. I've been having a lot of pre-labor symptoms for over two weeks now. It's nice to know that dilation and effacement don't mean much. What about the position of the cervix? With mine still being pretty posterior, is that a huge problem?

Not trying to sound ugly or anything, but if baby isnt ready, baby wont come... no matter what you do. Everyone will swear by this, that or the other. But IMHO, baby will come when ready. I was afraid of all the complications that can come from induction and cesarian as well. The week before I went into labor, i still swam, bicycled, and walked. We continued eating spicy foods and cont our sex life and I was still working. But nothing really seemed to bring baby on, granted we werent doing things to try to get LO to come, but what we were doing was things ppl say bring on labor.... they just didnt. Be patient
My DD was 14 days late. My dr agreed to let me go 42 weeks, but not a day over, so my induction was scheduled the day I hit 42 weeks, luckily my DD came that morning. I went to the Dr at 41 wks and 6 days and was dialated "almost a fingertip" and hadnt effaced any and she hadnt even dropped! Then, all of a sudden I started having contractions while I was at work, and little bit was born within a few hrs of being admitted.
Best wishes!
I was a week overdue and had induction in hospital, gave birth at 9 days past my due date, other than the induction meds (cervidil and cytotec the first day, pitocin on the day I delivered) my birth was pain med and complication free. Don't fear induction so much!
I would highly suggest AGAINST castor oil. It has been known to cause the baby to defecate in the womb and swallow meconium VERY BAD.
