Hey everyone I just needed all the opinions I can get and was wondering if anyone has been in my place. My dd has had a high fever for the past 12 days, 101-104 and we can't figure out what the cause is. She is hospitalized until the fever goes away but I'm trying to rule out everything and not let something slip through. They did urine analysis and she doesn't have a UTI. They also did a spinal tap and no meningitis. Her blood has a high infectious level of 200 while 10 is the norm. She is pretty happy and great while up. Her fever spikes when she's tired and sleeping. She's had a seizure on the second day of this debacle. No rashes or diarrhea, a little coughing. Eyes are clear. I have requested a check for Kawasaki but they doubt it's that bc she is upbeat. I am still worried though. Right now she is on universal antibiotics to tackle anything bacterial. Her infectious bacteria level has decreased since starting the abx but the fever was still 105 last night. Oh her chest X-rays are great too. Anyone have any suggestions? Help?
Re: High fever for 12 days and counting.
How scary! Is your regular pediatrician back in the US? Where ever they are, maybe you can get them on the phone and ask for some feedback. They might have some suggestions.
I hope you guys find out ASAP what is going on and she gets better real soon!
Thinking about doing that tomorrow. My friend that's a pedi suggested roseola but she only has fever so that was ruled out. Then he suggested Kawasaki which dh had already requested testing on. They are interesting with the way the do things here but drs are always up for the challenge of figuring it out. I don't feel comfortable with an unexplained reason right now.
My poor girl has only one hand bc the other has the IV bandaged to it.... This is hard for her since she loves to climb and uses 2 hands for everything. Otherwise she's been making friends w the drs and nurses here since we have been here so long.
Why do you assume infectious disease doctors and children's hospitals in the US are any better than in the UK?
OP, sorry you're going through this and I don't have any suggestions. UK doctors are very well trained and they have excellent facilities. If you are not in a children's hospital, I would ensure you are seeing a peds specialist. GL.

That sucks. I am really sorry T&P to you all, esp her.
I agree with calling the pedi ASAP. Have you had her checked for any autoimmune diseases?

Our experience with Roseola was the rash showed up after the fever dropped. We had an unexplained 5 nights of high fevers and the days were all normal. Went to the doctor and he couldn't find anything wrong.
Hopefully you will figure this out asap....12 days with high fever seems rather long
I agree with this poster that I would go to a children's hospital where you are.
So sorry you are going through all of this.
