When did your LO transition to 1 nap?

My LO is almost 1, but lately he's been fighting his naps.  He seems tired, but I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the transition to 1 nap.  He's never been a good napper.  Most days at least one of his naps is only 30-35 minutes.

When did your LO transition to 1 nap?  How did you know he/she was ready?  How did you make the switch?

Thanks!

Re: When did your LO transition to 1 nap?

  • Daycare started the transition for us.  LO got moved to the Infant 2 class around 10 month.  They do just 1 nap a day.  So they slowly transitioned her to 1 nap.  It took a few weeks to adjust, but she does great with it now.  Sometimes on the weekends she'll want 2 naps and we give it to her.  Sorry, I know thats not much help about your questions on how did we know.

  • DD is working on it now.  Most days lately she has only been taking one.  But she is absolutely exhausted by bedtime--she needs to be able to push her morning nap back a bit, but she can't make it much longer than 3.5hrs in the morning.  She just turned 12m.

  • 10 months she started fighting her morning nap (took two 45 minute naps a day). Three days I tried everything to get her to sleep and I finally gave up. Had to move the afternoon nap up and hour or two, but then she started sleeping 2 hours at a time.

  • My DD was no where near going to one nap at 10 months.  She was ready at about 17 months.  Every LO is different though.

  • DD started taking just one nap right around her 1st birthday.  She is still on the same schedule now and naps 1:30-3:30ish every day.

  • DS transitioned at 18 months.  It started to be harder to get him to sleep for his first nap (9:30) and he would often not sleep as long for it as he used to.  I was surprised at how quickly he went from absolutely needing that first nap at 9:30, to being able to stay awake until 1:30 with no problem.
